Holly Lodge is located on a street that is difficult to find and hidden from view by a large hedge and long driveway. But the search was well worth it. Holly Lodge is owned and run by Gillian and Jeremy Bolam. They took over the Inn a few years ago and turned it into a remarkably elegant, well-appointed and comfortable hotel that is surrounded by beautiful […] grounds. It is a great base for long walks in the Norfolk countryside. Jeremy,an accomplished ultra-marathon runner, is a most engaging host. When have YOU last invited a hotel host to visit you at your own home? Jeremy made dinner for a dear but seriously ill friend and his wife a very special event. He does all the cooking, and our meal was delicious, the vegetarian as well as the dishes for carnivores. We had an elegant small dining room all to ourselves. We found a free bottle of wine in our room, and our excellent dinner wine was inexpensive. The price suggested cheap plonk, but it definitely was not. The room was comfortable and appointed with great attention to detail. The quality bathroom supplies were specially packaged and labeled for the Lodge. Breakfast was served in the charming glassed-in conservatory, a delightful place to sit with a cup of coffee and answer e-mails. Really welcoming and helpful hosts. Wine, cake and Easter eggs in our room on arrival, and the cake was replenished every day! Excellent choice at breakfast and good quality food. It was just fabulous! Such a beautiful cottage bedroom, well equipped with lovely decor, crisp linen, a comfortable bed, tea, wine, fresh cake. And the conservatory in the main house was a place where we could have stayed the whole time -- what a beautiful place to enjoy the amazing home-cooked breakfasts, sitting in the sun drinking tea, reading the […] day's papers, planning our walks on the great assortment of maps. Eventually we convinced ourselves to get out and walk along the coast and the beautiful villages in the area; but we were so happy to get back to our lovely cottage at the end of each day! We stayed in the very tastefully converted stable room 'Country Cottage'. Excellent welcome, including a bottle of wine and bowl of fruit. Good explanation and orientation, including a comprehensive guide to the area in the written materials. Room was warm and comfortable (the weather was cold and miserable). The in room chairs were dining style which […] didn't make for comfortable seating for any length of time. However this was compensated for by the seating available in the convervatory, wbere meals are also served....speaking of which, breakfast was fantastic. Great quality local produce, well prepared and presented. One small gripe. The staff at Holly Lodge were fantastic, they couldn't do enough for you and made my partner and I feel welcomed at all times. Their generosity went beyond that of standard hotels and the little touches in the room made our stay that much greater. I would not hesitate returning and would recommend it to anyone.
