Learn more about La Pine

Venture into the outdoor playground where the Little Deschutes River offers prime fishing spots and lazy summer floating. Newberry National Volcanic Monument's otherworldly lava fields provide hiking trails through alien-like landscapes. The Deschutes National Forest surrounds with pine-scented trails perfect for mountain biking or horseback riding. Mt. Bachelor's slopes beckon winter sports enthusiasts with powder that locals consider their rightful inheritance. Wildlife watching opportunities abound – osprey dive for fish while deer graze with suburban nonchalance. Downtown shops at Little River Plaza feature shopkeepers sharing insider fishing tips. Bring binoculars – the star-gazing here rivals the daytime views of snow-capped Cascade peaks.

There was a gorgeous 2 mile hike through lush forest and lava rock to get to this beauty. It is the most incredible blue I have seen. The water is a freezing 40 degrees and is the headwaters of the McKenzie River. Yes, people were actually jumping in and quickly popping back out.
