I lived in San Mateo for 3.5 years and in Foster City for 35.5 years. Both areas have changed dramatically, with new construction replacing many mom/pop stores etc. Downtown SM/other towns (Burlingame, San Carlos etc) remain as vibrant as ever.

I work here and I love it. Downtown has so many cool restaurants and shops and salons (almost too many)! The downtown theater location is convenient, and there's also a theater by Hillsdale mall. Hillsdale is a nice place to shop and hang out.

I love San Mateo, grew up there. It is an old town with old buildings and such. If you are looking for a get away, try Half Moon Bay next to San Mateo.

Traveling to San Fransisco. Didn't want to pay high parking & resort fee plus we LOVE the San Mateo Luxury Movie Theater. You can dine & have drinks while watching a movie all you have to do is push a button & your server will come to you.

San Mateo is a great alternative to everything else around SFO. Great food too!
"Mark Hopkins is a classic for a reason. Never misses in cleanliness, customer service, comfort, or safety. Great hotel in a wonderful city that is absolutely and noticeably on a rebound. SF is back. Visit. Enjoy. "
"Beds very comfortable and the transport to and from sites was reasonably priced. My host employee at check In, Eric warmed up immediately and help me resolve my reservation / itinerary mix up. Not very happy with a 35$ over priced continental breakfast. Enjoyed my stay and decided to eat elsewhere for breakfast. Mels Dinner early and dont moss tommys joynt after noon. "
"I went with my 21-year-old daughter to celebrate my birthday and we had a great three nights stay. We had fun in the Tonga room, we loved our Bayview hotel room, all the staff was very nice and the area around there is beautiful - we will definitely be coming back."
