Feels much quieter and less busy than Wellington with a newer, cleaner feel than the somewhat "Bohemian" capital. Each interesting in their own way....great to see CC continuing the recovery from the earthquake since our last visit 5 years ago.

Christchurch was a lovely city with an amazing botanic park home to some amazing trees. You can take a ride around the city on a hop on hop off tram tour and also go punting on a boat down the river Avon which was very relaxing

Beforehand I thought that Christchurch would be boring now when they have rebuilt a modern city after the earthquakes 2010 and 2011. But I was pleasently surprised. It was an interesting city with a lot of things to see and do.

The city has amazing Botanic Gardens and the Port Hills are great for a scenic walk, cycle or ride. Good network of cycle paths. There is a real mixture of new and old in the city. Has some great street art and murals.

Willowbank Reserve and the International Antarctic Centre are two solid attractions in the city. If you want a scenic drive, it's 2hrs to Arthur's Pass which offers great hiking options and fantastic scenery

Small, quiet town that is a great place to stay while exploring the South Island. The city is modern because most of it was flattened in the earthquake of 2011 and recently rebuilt.

Try the food market for excellent food sellers and dining options. Tranzalpine Express or Coastal Pacific train journeys are incredible. The Earthquake museum is very good.
