As a birder/wildlife photographer, I like to stop for a day or two in Gainesville when I travel to Florida because Paynes Prairie (La Chua) in winter and Sweetwater Wetlands in spring are fantastic places to see and photograph birds/wildlife.

The University is the focus of the city. The shopping is quite good with a number of malls and chain stores. Many good restaurants despite being a smaller city. Enjoyable with a visit to the Butterfly Exhibit and Museum.

We really like the Gville area. Great biking on the Hawthorn trail and paddling at nearby springs (within 45 min) in Silver Springs, Ichetucknee, and Dunellon. Payne's Prairie is a nice hike.

Gainesville rules. There are many great restaurants, music venues, shops and hotels. It's home of the FEST, an anual punk rock festival that brings bands, comedians, wrestlers and fans from all over the world. The Gainesville Lodge is a dump though.

Small college Town with a lot of great non-chain places to eat. If you are around UF area be carefull with pedestrians, students tend to just walk across the streets without looking.

It was what you expect from a college town. Since it is summer not to crowded, but it was fun and everything is very close to the theater.

"Everything was up to service. It was practically perfect in every way. We both loved the room. The comfortability, the cleanliness, everything was quick and the environment was great too. He made a comment that it always smelled of green tea and it made it all the better.
