Emma was an amazing host. The property was clean, the host was welcoming, and the breakfast was superb with a variety of fresh fruits and muffins to go with your main dish. (Definitely say yes to the porridge!!) Be aware, the property is not near any shops or... anything at all, really. It’s a proper country house surrounded by beautiful nature (and right in front of a bus stop) so if you want to eat out or get groceries you’ll have to plan for it as the closest store is 4-5 miles away. All in...
The staff are angels on earth! Karl helped me fix a ferry/bus schedule problem and saved me from being stranded across the island in the dark. Lorna saved me from another transportation oversight I made, connecting me with a taxi driver that kept me on schedule. Without them my whole trip to Islay would have been a disaster, but instead, it was wonderful! Oh, and the hostel is lovely, clean, informative, and peaceful.
How do I describe the island of Colonsay and the Hotel? It is impossible to find the right words. This is an island of incredible beauty, almost dream-like quiet, the most amazing beach ever, it is such a special place. The hotel is an old inn, just up the pier road from the ferry dock, with classic weathered architecture - uneven floorboards, winding stairs, safe timeless feel, but modern in the things that matter - comfortable bed, functional bathroom etc. The screen-less windows open to...
We had a one-nighter planned for Islay and wanted to spend the night in very nice accommodations. Saw the Islay House and booked. The pictures did not do this place justice. A beautiful renovation of a 17th Century (and later) Country House into a small boutique inn. Wonderful room, the dining room and bar were just what we were hoping for in the stay.
The owner was present and a delight. Staff was attentive and gracious; the dinner in the dining room offered a small but well-executed...
What can I say, I absolutely loved my stay at the Crinan Hotel. I was blown away by the view from the room. The food was delicious and the staff were fabulous
Would I stay again? Yes,in a heartbeat and I'm already trying to think of an excuse to rebook.
This was just what we needed for our night in Kilmartin - good food, good ambiance, and directly across the street from the Kilmartin museum and an old church with medieval grave slabs. We stayed in the Winter Room - it might be helpful to know that this room has 2 bedrooms - one with two twin beds, and another room with a double and a single. The room was somewhat dated but was perfectly cozy and we enjoyed our stay.
