Learn more about Rodanthe

Waves crash against the easternmost point of North Carolina where wild horses occasionally roam the pristine Outer Banks beaches. Cast a line from Rodanthe Pier or explore the untamed beauty of Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The historic Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station offers a glimpse into maritime rescue history. Visit during 'Old Christmas' on January 6th to witness the unique local tradition featuring the mythical beast 'Old Buck.' Birdwatchers flock to Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge for spectacular sightings. Kayaking on Pamlico Sound provides a peaceful contrast to Atlantic surf. With only 213 residents, this tiny unincorporated community delivers outsized natural beauty and coastal charm without the crowds found elsewhere on the Outer Banks.

Bonner Bridge is one of North Carolina's most well known man-made structures of it's kind (The Linn Cove Viaduct on the Blue Ridge Parkway is probably the most well known). This location makes for a great getaway at the Outerbanks to spend an entire day (and night). The location is popular for fishing and is ideal for landscape and astro photography. You can have lots of fun on some of the dunes, although getting the sand out afterwards is a big hassle.

This is one of my favorite images from this location. I love the warm light tones and the shadows that create a contrast in the foreground sand. It is created from a single exposure with only minor modifications made to adjust overall contrast and brightness.

If you are interested in wildlife, the Pea Island Wildlife Refuge is nearby and is a very popular location.

Thank you for stopping by.
