"Clean spacious room, ok breakfast, friendly staff; hotel in a marginal neighborhood with homeless sleeping here and there, trash and even a used syringe by the hotel. Price is good for Santa Cruz, so still a good place if you won’t venture out at night. Water street grill about 3 blocks away has good food. Not far to the freeway or coastline."

"The Torch Lite Inn is the perfect spot for an affordable (on non-peak days) overnight near the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. It’s simple but well-maintained & only a short walk to the beach. We especially like the 2nd floor room balconies & free parking!"

"If I were to guess, I would say that this was a dilapidated property that was recently purchased and quickly renovated. It isn't perfect, but it's cheap and the staff are friendly. The really nice thing about this place is the location. It's a 5 minute walk to Maitreya Retreat, Enterprise Rent-a-car, and Santa Cruz Diner."
