This is our second time at Chetica. Each room has a unique, themed design. We have stayed in Seville and this time in “Big Bear” which reminds you of a mountain cabin. The rooms have big bathrooms and a kitchenette with a coffeemaker and coffee provided. The breakfast is delicious. You are in the hills with fresh air and beautiful gardens. When I say five stars I don't mean it is the best hotel in the country, I mean it does what it does really well in its price range. This is a comfortable and relaxing place. It is geared towards men who like to rest and watch a lot of sports. It is very clean and the hotel staff is very nice. They were very accommodating. The bartenders are friendly. The food is decent for Costa Rican standards. Sorry but Costa Rica isn't a food paradise. Not bad but nothing you will photograph and remember....

Would highly recommend this place. The owners just couldn't be nicer or more helpful. The cabins are bright, comfortable, and clean. The location is convenient to the Mirador de Ujarras and the Ruinas de Ujarras as well as multiple good restaurants. The citrus trees on the grounds attract lots of interesting birds. We saw at least 35 species from our porch. Hanging out with their adorable, super friendly Doberman was a big bonus for us.
My husband and I stayed here for two nights at the end of June and it was spectacular. The food, service, activities, spa, and grounds exceeded our expectations. We were a part of the first group of rafters allowed into (and out of) the lodge following the torrential rains and at no time did we feel unsafe.
