The st Nicolas hotel

The hotel room was okay but the bedhesd had a hole in it . The television didn't work . We were in a room that was on the main street which was very noisy

Flooring in lift was danaged and I tripped over it. Room was tatty, curtain hanging of the curtain pole. Divan was damaged excrement stains on towels. Was also really hot, thermostat was not working, thankfully patio doors worked, however the moise from Colchester City Centre is more like Colchester Zoo. Horrendous experience, worst hotel ever.

Our first night was disappointing as the room had no a/c and the corridor was very hot outside. There was no room to move to. 2nd night we were moved to a cooler room after needing to complain. It was a shame because otherwise it would have been an excellent room in an excellent location. As the room had several fans i cannot believe it was a one off occasion.

Perfect for our needs

Situated right in the heart of Colchester. Our room was a family one so very spacious and comfortable. It was perfect for our needs as we were attending a concert in Chelmsford but if you wanted an early night I wouldn’t recommend the location as it was very noisy up until midnight. We also struggled to park as the one recommended at The George Hotel where you check in was rammed! This was our only real problem otherwise a great stay,

Our room had no AC, it was June so it was very hot inside the room. It was a Saturday night, so opening the windows meant a lot of bar/club noise. Other than that, it was reasonable and convenient for a quick stay.

This is a great place to stay highly recommend! Reasonably priced and very good value. The room we had was quite comfortable on the top floor with a private balcony area, perfect for us smokers. We were right in the heart of the center easy walking distance to castle and pubs/ nightlife. The front desk is located just across the street and the staff were all super friendly and helpful! Would stay again for sure if ever back in the area great job!

Clean, Huge Room

Lovely clean room and it was huge! Had everything we needed for.our stay. Building felt safe and was in a really convenient spot on the high street. Even though it was a saturday night, the noise was not an issue. Only criticism is that the room was really really warm! It was snowing outside but the room was still too warm, id be a little worried about staying in the warmer weather as ive noticed from other reviews that this is a problem all year round.

Thank you to the staff for helping us get around the area. They were incredible!! The hotel room was HUGE and has a wonderful wrap around balcony. (Room 904) Top sheets aren’t a thing in the UK. You only have to ask!! Excellent stay. Beautiful city!!
