We had a lovely 2 night stay at Onyado Yuinoshou In Shirakawa. Room was amazing and the experience of a private outdoor spa. Also wearing no shoes & Yukata was a lovely experience. Amazing to be only 5 mins drive to Shirawawa go heritage village.

10/10 Excellent

A must place to visit in Japan. Great ambience, delicious breakfast and dinner. Hot springs tub in private outdoors. Great place to hike with amazing view of small town from the top. Lots of gift shops and snack stores. Restaurants had long wait list. Air was clean, weather was perfect for T-shirt wear. During rain, there was a mist floating in the mountains. Love this place!!

Wondering ryokan with delicious and beautiful meals. The staff is nice and a shuttle to go to Shirakawa-go historical site. They even remove the accumulated snow on your car
Isabelle, 1-night trip

10/10 Excellent

The hotel is very nice, the food was amazing. The only down side was the shuttle bus in the morning was fully booked, and we had to walk to the bus terminal.
Betty, 1-night trip

10/10 Excellent

We loved it. We had a beautiful broom looking over the river. It was a spacious suite. We loved the clothes that came with staying in the Onsen. We had both suppers and breakfasts which were world class. The hot spring itself was a delightful surprise. The shuttle to get into town was convenient enough and we could always find a shuttle when we want to leave or come back. We spent two days there. I would go back in a heartbeat. The view looking over the river was spectacular. I’m not so sure if we had had a room looking out on the parking lot.
Brian, 2-night trip

8/10 Good

The room we stayed was on the 3rd floor room 310 and it is has 2 separate room. The big room can has like a king bed with tv. The other room has the 2 twin bed with living room couch, tv, bathroom and shower room. Our view was the river which was very beautiful. I wish that they provide more channels on the tv. The amenities are superb. The dining and breakfast is more on japanese food which is quite expensive. No washer and dryer in this facility. Will come back again

Really nice spot stay a night or 2 to enjoy Shirakawago. Facility amenities is unmatched. Onsite onsen is nice ( private/public). A bit far from the bus station however they do have shuttle service to the bus station and back. Highly recommended especially with a large party.

Beautiful hot springs, with nice rooms and kept us well fed. We loved the provided lounge wear and was a great experience on our trip.
Elliot, 1-night trip

4/10 Poor

Bad decision

Bad hospitality, worst breakfast, when I asked for a coffee they sent me to the public coffee machine. They didn't accepted our luggage after 11:00 am, and not to use the public bath after check out. They need to learn much more how to give nice hospitality for they're guests.

My spouse and I were on vacation with our adult son. This was our favorite hotel in Japan (out of the six hotels we stayed at). It's not the easiest to get to - the hotel's shuttle times are limited (otherwise it's a 30 minute walk from the bus station; no taxis in town), but you can leave luggage in lockers or other paid storage at Shirakawa-go bus station (which is what we did). At the bus station, you are in walking distance to everything you would want to see in Shirakawa, whereas the hotel is not walking distance to anything. The shuttle driver was very nice and helpful, as were all of the hotel staff. They spoke decent English - we used a translation app for more complex conversation. You should absolutely book room with board (includes breakfast and dinner) since there are no restaurants open anywhere nearby in the evening. You can do this on Expedia, contrary to what another review said. The kaiseki dinner was lovely. Our room was the most spacious and comfortable room we had in Japan - it looked out over the mountains and river, which was beautiful. The hotel is very traditional - all of the hallways are lined with tatami mats and no outdoor shoes allowed. The onsen were beautiful and peaceful - a perfect way to end the evening. Although you could easily go to Shirakawa-go as a day trip from Kanazawa or Takayama, we're glad that we decided to spend the night there - this hotel was worth it!
