Great hotel, bad restaurant experience

Simple but beautiful accommodations, room very clean. Loved that the mini bar is complimentary and the balcony overlooking the water was so peaceful! Their outside beach/bar area is amazing. The only bad experience we had was at the hotel restaurant. We had a reservation for a special pop up dinner and not only were we ignored by the staff for 15 minutes, it took over an hour to seat us and then we had to flag down a waiter after 20 minutes just sitting at our table to get a drink. Then we were told that they were out of 3 of the 4 main entrees on a prix fix menu. They offered us chicken tenders and a discount instead which would have still been 65$. For chicken tenders! Turns out the host allowed 55 walk ins and knew they were out of food when he sat us 45 minutes late. By then it was too late to get food anywhere else and they tried to send us to another place that they said was serving late only to find their kitchen closed too! What we thought was going to be nice fancy dinner ended up with take out burritos on our balcony. They did make it better the next day by inviting us for some complimentary apps and drinks but that was after we complained to the manager and communicated with him all day about our experience. Overall, great hotel but due to the lack of organization at their restaurant, I would eat somewhere else.

I was dying to stay at the iconic surf lodge for their great live music, excellent food and boho chic decor while spending the week surfing in Montauk. I asked the hotel for a beach pass so I could park with ease at the permit required lots of Ditch Plains and the woman at the front desk gave me what I thought was the beach parking pass which I used for 3 days at the beach. On the third day I received a $150 parking ticket and when I complained to the manager of the hotel, Erika, she said that I had been given the wrong parking pass by the front desk and should have received a different pass and needed to ask her manager what to do. Please note that there is no way to communicate with anyone here unless you email them and hope for a response. I emailed the Director of Operations, Ben, about the unfortunate incident and he snidely responded with “we will not be taking on the parking expenses” even though it was clearly their error. After spending $625/night I can honestly say I will never stay here again. Not to mention the bathroom still had a dirty wash cloth on top of the shower head upon our arrival. We didn’t make a big deal about it but should have in hind sight. Also, the walls are paper thin and you can hear just about everything.

When we walked into our room we instantly smelt the cleanliness and efforts of the cleaning staff. We felt at ease knowing our room was safe and clean. We absolutely LOVED that the surf lodge was dog friendly. You would never even know it because the room and decor was in great shape, including the bed which was so comfortable! We especially loved our patio and shower. The sound of the lake waves were extremely relaxing and the shower we didn't want to get out of. It was a great addition that everything in the mini bar was free (or included in your stay), we enjoyed that perk. The one thing I would change is, once the "lobby" closed, I didn't know of any way of getting in touch with the hotel staff. There was no phone in the room or instructions on what to do when the staff leaves. I wasn't really sure where to get fresh towels. Once the front desk staff leaves, I felt we were kind of left to fend for ourselves. But overall, I would stay here again in the off-season. We really enjoyed our time.

Not worth the money or the hype

The Lake view is great BUT the service was horrible for the price we paid. I received a text at 1030 in the morning with my room number and key code stating the room was ready for us. When we arrived the door was open and the cleaning people were in the room so we went for lunch. When we came back to the hotel 2 hours later the cleaning staff was still cleaning our room and told us they were short staffed. We then went to reception who told us it is what it is and we can go to the bar to wait it out but when we got to the bar it wasn’t open. Reception did absolutely nothing to accommodate us for the inconvenience and another employee told us that the place is a big deal and gets celebrities all the time as if that is supposed to make up for the lack of service we received. Maybe if I was a celebrity I would’ve been treated better. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

The staff was wonderful during the pandemic. The place was very clean, but the room needed some repair. There was no cable service; only comcast, but our signal was weak and we kept losing the stream. Our room was right off the highway, so it was alittle noisey. The hotel and the shop is beautiful. There was a great event hosted on the deck.All and all we really enjoyed our stay.

Nice but...

The location was perfect and the room was very nice. However, the amenities were a bit lacking. The tv was not hooked up to any type of cable, and could not be paired with any of our devices (iPhones, iPads), so it was essentially useless. The hand soap, body wash, shampoo and conditioner were in the type of bottles that are just refilled after each guest checks out (frightening during these COVID times!) as opposed to being in small bottles that are just disposed of after use. Also, the pumps for both the hand soap and the body wash were broken and would not pump. There was no place to get ice for the room and for coolers. We were also told the restaurant is not currently operating which was not mentioned during booking. Other than those things, the stay was nice.

Despite the kitchen being closed the bar and lounge area are stunning for the few hotels guests. Its like a private oasis. Staff was exceptionally helpful during times of COVID.

Loved the room, beautifully furnished. Loved the hammock! The bathroom shower was great and with ogx products. Nice hang out area by the pond not crowded at all which I’m guessing in non covid times it can get crazy. Just the complimentary mini bar of items is only for weekend stays.

It could not be worse. No service. They did not clean the room. The night we arrived, there was a bus in front of our room, with the generator running all night. The next day, a renovation of the manholes also in front of the room. The air conditioner is super noisy. Worst experience we could have in a lodge.

The room was nice but the hand soap, body wash, and shampoo were basically empty when we arrived, which makes me think the room wasn’t completely turned over when we checked in. We had to go to the front desk to ask for replacements.

3 Day Trip in August

The room was very beachy, comfortable & most importantly, clean. Our view of the pond was mostly obscured by overgrown bushes but, we were able to see some of the water & the little deck was still nice & peaceful so, I was ok with that. I found all of the staff members I encountered to be nice and friendly however, the service was definitely lacking a little. 9 times out of 10, there was no one sitting in the front desk reception area & I would have to go hunting for someone whenever I needed something or had a question. They also advertise free continental breakfast but, it was actually only available 1 of the 3 mornings we were there & I had to inquire about it & sit while someone brought me out the sections on a try... not self serve & a bit awkward - also not everything was fresh. At the end of the day, it was a nice trip & I would stay again but, there is definitely some room for improvement & I'd probably try another hotel next time as there are plenty of good options in Montauk.
