Die Mikado Natural Lodge war das Highlight unserer Reise. Die Unterkunft liegt idyllisch auf einem großzügigen Anwesen. Alles ist sehr gepflegt. Die Bewertungen zur Anfahrt über die unbefestigte Straße haben uns vor der Buchung beschäftigt. Der Weg ist zwar nicht asphaltiert und man legt ihn mit geringer Geschwindigkeit zurück, aber wir hatten mit unserem Suzuki Jimny keinerlei Probleme. Unser Bungalow war wunderschön. Hell, freundlich, alles war sauber, gepflegt, gut ausgestattet. Wir genossen es mit offenen Fenstern (bodentiefe Fliegengitter zum Schieben vorhanden) zu schlafen, den Geräuschen des Dschungels zu lauschen, morgens von Brüllaffen geweckt zu werden und den Tag beim Sonnenuntergang von der Terrasse zu verabschieden. Das offene Badezimmer hat uns ebenfalls beeindruckt, mit Ausblick in den Dschungel. Auch hier befinden sich Fliegengitter, zum Schutz vor Eindringlingen. Der Pool ist schön angelegt und wir hatten ihn während des Aufenthalts für uns allein. Selbst Sonnenschutzmittel steht den Gästen am Pool zur Verfügung. Es sind viele Kleinigkeiten an die hier gedacht wurde. Wir konnten Vögel, Affen und Eidechsen beobachten. Das Frühstück ist köstlich. Wir fanden es schön, dass es am Tisch serviert wurde. Das Abendessen, welches Lolo für uns gekocht hat, ist absolut empfehlenswert. Wir haben die Strände und Ortschaften in der Umgebung erkundet. Der Aufenthalt bei Lolo wird uns in Erinnerung bleiben. Dankeschön für die Gastfreundschaft.

L’endroit est tout simplement magnifique, tranquille, que 6 petites maisonnettes personnelles et décoré avec goût. Très propre, excellent déjeuner ( inclus) et souper $ succulent si on ne veut pas sortir le soir. La route pour s’y rendre est quelques chose mais ça vaut le coup. Lolo la proprio est très accommodante et sympathique, il y a aussi Negrita qui rend l’endroit special

This was our very first trip to Costa Rica (for our 20th Wedding Anniversary) and it won’t be our last! The best part was staying at this place, which was pure luxury… architect-designed bungalows that were impeccably clean with great amenities (the housekeeper even cleaned my sandy flipflops one day!), a gorgeous picturesque pool, a cool little hiking path carved out of the hillside, and the BEST breakfasts. All the reviewers raved about Lolo, the Belgium-born owner, being a gracious host, and that is so true! I loved hearing all her stories about how Mikado came to life. She’s an amazing woman. BONUS: Lolo has two friendly dogs and a PET PIG named Negrita!! DO book a dinner at Mikado (Lolo just needs a couple days notice) because she’s an incredible chef. We had a 3 course meal with Mahi Mahi as the entree, drizzled with this delicious passion fruit sauce. Yes, the roads in the area are a challenge - as are most in Costa Rica, by the way - but my husband loved driving them in his Jimny we rented. Two biggest suggestions I have are: rent a 4x4 vehicle (we had a great experience with Alamo at LIR). Also, your map may guide you in to Mikado from the south- you should enter from the northern route. We felt safe everywhere we went in Guanacaste and we are already planning another trip to Costa Rica, this time with the kids (my daughter wants to meet Negrita!) 💕

Lola is amazing! She went above and beyond for us and the property is clean and beautiful. The roads in Costa Rica are rough dirt with huge pot holes though you’ll definitely want a small SUV

The owner, Lolo, is very helpful and knowledgeable. She prepares a homemade breakfast for each guest. The property is lovely and I am a big fan of the bathrooms in the bungalows. Nice size shower, lovely wood and fresh air coming in from 3 sides. There is a bit of a drive up a dirt road to get there (but this is very typical of Costa Rican roads). Well worth it once you arrive.

Phenomenal place to recharge in nature

Our stay at Mikado was nothing short of phenomenal. The incredible Lolo and her wonderful team + family have truly built a slice of heaven on earth. Our bungalow was cute, cool, comfy, spacious and private—nestled right in the woods. The Mikado grounds are beautiful and very special—with lots of stunning views, a refreshing infinity pool and shaded hot tub that are both open at night, two lovely trails to hike, and a warm dining area where each visitor is treated like the guest of honor. As if Lolo wasn’t enough of an all-star for building and running this place in tip top shape, she also is an incredible chef who was able to serve us nonstop prix fixe deliciousness even while accommodating my significant dietary restrictions. With the resort built atop a hilltop forest tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Tamarindo, there’s no better place for a nature lover than Mikado. We saw howler monkeys, tropical birds, iguanas, frogs, toads, lizards—and that was all just from the luxurious comfort of the pool! And because it’s a small resort without too many guests at a time, the facilities all felt very private. We cannot recommend this place more highly and honestly could’ve stayed MONTHS longer than we did. Don’t miss the opportunity to treat yourself by staying somewhere so special.

Lolo the owner is a great host. The cabin is very clean and nice. The road to the place is not good, which accounts for a average rating. One caveat is to make sure you do not go on a road recommended by WAZE where you have to cross a stream. Call the owner and get direction's for another route.
