Very long, slow line to check in. Room with 1 king bed was the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in, but clean. Bed comfort was average. Tub faucet was leaking with a steady flow that was loud. Not a drip, a steady flow. Maintenance claims "all the faucets leak". The shower head was powerful, but hot and cold came from two different faucets and it was either scalding hot or ice cold. It would also change temperature on it's own. So you are under the water and it goes hotter or colder on its own, makes for a very unpleasant shower. Impossible to sit on the toilet without hitting your arm on the counter. Very tight corner and my arm is bruised from hitting it almost every time. AC cannot go below 65 and room never got below 68, it was not cool enough. We threw our dirty clothes on the bottom of the closet floor and when we picked them up to pack, they were SOAKING wet. No idea how the closet floor got so wet that it seeped into our clothes. Soaking wet, not damp. And the clothes smelled musty from the water that was on the floor. There was no remote for the TV. There were coffee pods, but no coffee maker in the room. The room was clean and valet parking at $52 per night was expensive, but they were efficient. 100% would not stay here again. The Menger's attitude is, "We're an old hotel, this is the best we can do." At $250 per night, plus $52 per night parking, I expected so much better. Absolutely the worst hotel I've booked through Hotels.com and easily the most expensive.

The room and staff were great. I was very disappointed to learn upon arrival that the hotel has closed its restaurant, the Colonial Room, which was a key reason I stayed there. I hope they reopen it.

The maid staff was totally unresponsive. Left a message for wash rags (only had one for 2 night stay of two people) and no one bothered to respond. The bed cover sheet was so thin it was like paper. The management must really be trying to cut corners. There was also no concierge at the Desk, even though it was Spring Break and the hotel was packed.

After an early pre check in, the hotel never called us to say the room was ready. Their website was inaccurate on several food related items. Trash left in the hall by other rooms was not picked up even after 24 hours. The door to the actual room was not very secure. The shower would. The hotel is in an amazing location and is very old. Thats about all the good. Parking is a nightmare, 1/2 the front desk employees (including the supervisor) are not friendly or nice. There was litterally no hot water during my 3 night stay. The noise from ru ning/screaming kids was unbearable. I wont stay here again & wouldnt recommend to others.

We were in room 2143 next to the elevator stay away from this room you can hear every time the elevator moves all hours of the night and if you're neighbors have a bathroom issue you will also know, side note the hotel is amazing the room was terrible.

3 Emails sent some in advance leading to my arrival, none answered. Menger Site, Facebook, and Hotels.com, and stopped by the desk to try to achieve the best room at the best rate I could for something potentially a bit more. Instead one read message not responded to, the other two no response and the desk when I arrived no help. Hotel is nice and a great historical beauty. The grounds were nice and kept well, pool was very nice , didn't seem heated so very chilly, valet was prompt courteous, helpful and speedy. Shops that rent on the outer parts of the hotel were nice and people nice there too. Great area to be convenient and price was very good. They claim to have a great rate with extra perks if booking through hotel and that was not the best deal and the one with the perk was significantly higher so they must really like their secondary market sellers better than giving the customer a deal. No receipt printed at check out due to bad printer and the promise of the emailed receipt never arrived. It was pay at the hotel and not convinced I was not overcharged. I may return but the ways to communicate with the hotel did fail miserably and if I had the time I would have called. The trip was enjoyable, but a room next to the elevator couldn't have been worse with the thin walls. The view was to a gravel roof with a stretch I could see the courtyard. Others parise them but for a hotel with this rating I feel the accomodations I asked and was will to pay and upcharge were ignored

We stayed at the Menger during our grandson's graduation from Air Force Basic Training. Our check in was smooth, the staff welcoming. Valet parking was almost seamless. Our room was very spacious, but the view was not good-- rooftops of nearby buildings. We had to request bars of soap as we found none in the bathroom. We also had to request a light bulb as one of the lamps didn't have one. We were told at check in there was no maid service, but if we needed anything to call the from desk. On our second morning, we asked to have some of our used towels replaced, but when we returned to the room that evening it hadn't been done. They did send someone up with towels once I called again. In the hallway near the elevator, a couple of used drink glasses sat on a sideboard for three days-- no one came to clean them up. The location is next door to the Alamo and a 1 minute walk from the River Walk-- couldn't ask for better! All this being said-- I would stay there again-- reasonable rates, easy parking, excellent location and friendly staff.
