Lovely hotel. Great location. Friendly staff and lovely view from the room too. Would love to return.

Had a lovely overnight stay. The staff were lovely and the scenery was beautiful. The hotel did require a little updating but our room was clean.

Disappointing

The view from the hotel was amazing. That’s about all the hotel had going for it. It was dirty, part of the ceiling fell down up the stairs whilst we was there. Our room has damp and all of the wallpaper was falling off the ceiling and walls. It was very dusty and there were cobwebs everywhere! We had breakfast one of the days during our stay and it was undercooked and disgusting. I wouldn’t have fed it to our dogs. The location was good if you like walking up very very steep hills. We only had a bath in our room which was very hard to get into due to it being under a slanted ceiling. One of the days we didn’t have any hot water to even have a bath. Wouldn’t stay again.

Mixed feelings

Pro's - Fantastic views, great outside beer garden plenty of seats looking out over the cliffs and sea. Room again great views (with upgrade) even had a telescope which was good. Staff, really friendly, nothing too much. Cons - no wifi in room, information in room says they are aware and working on it, but advertised as having wifi, so need to remove this until sorted. Couple of small issues, only less than half a toilet roll provided (didnt notice till ran out as normally provide a spare) and no cups for tea in morning. Would I stay again - yes but only when wifi in room is working.

Give it a miss, great location but very run down

Very poor state of repair, stayed here during lockdown and things looked alot worse, the place hasnt had a lick of paint in years.

Nice hotel but tired in places

Our stay was nice and comfortable the views were amazing, the food we had was hot and tasty, the room was nice but some parts of the hotel were looking tired the Owner Saram hotels need to put some money into making it look better, generally painting and filling in places as first impression last.

Homely

Staff very warm and welcoming. I had to go out for tea as the website didn't say reservations needed to be made up to 5pm. Location is excellent and the welcoming of dogs excellent to. Finances pending I will be staying again.

Enjoyable stay

Really enjoyable stay. The hotel’s position is fantastic with incredible views. Our room was large and airy with a view of the bay. Dog friendly and everything we needed in our room.

The hotel reception, corridors and bedrooms are in need of modernisation. We stayed in a superior room with a balcony, but the room felt far from superior so I would be worried about staying in a standard room. I cannot comment on the bar area or the restaurant as we did not use these. However the location and views from the hotel make a stay here still worthwhile.

Room had a very traditional feel with a superb view of the beach. At £130 for the night it seemed very pricey but enjoyed the experience overall.

Stay 29th to 31st October

Views from hotel are amazing abd staff are lovely. However, hotel room was very tired, with 2 dirty stained armchairs, stool with dressing table was broken and faux leather headboard had numerous scratches and all need replacing. It needed a complete redecoration and new carpet. Added to this the tv did not work for the whole of our stay so if you wanted to relax in your room and watch tv no chance. Unfortunately our dinner was pretty poor especially at £26 fir 2 main meals and flat diet coke. It could be an amazing hotel given its clifftop location but it needs work. The positives are definitely location, staff and the fact that it is dog friendly. Would we stay there again? Not in its current condition which is a shame.

Every time we stay here the standards are excellent. A perfect location, stunning views and a young and enthusiastic staff make it a wonderful stay. Highly recommended

Lovely cliff top location, few miles out of Whitby. Bit rundown but room was clean and tidy as was the bathroom. Not going to complain considering the last year for the industry. Staff were very polite and helpful.

Birthday get away

It was disappointing the hotel is in dire need of refurbishment. There was one member of staff to cater for everyone no chef. We were were supposed to check in at 3pm it was 5.30pm . I think the only upside was the amazing views from our bed room never stay here again .

It's a shame ...

This hotel has masses of potential, being situated in a beautiful spot on the cliffs in amazing walking country. The decor is very tired and in need of repair/refreshing. However, the only aspects that really affected our stay were a very uncomfortable mattress (broken springs) and a toilet cistern that wouldn't fill properly (we had to top it up with the kettle in order to get more than one flush every few hours). The food (we had breakfast only) was very good and the service polite, except one member of staff who was rather off-hand and dismissive. A little bit of care and attention could bring this hotel back to a really great experience.

Average

Perfect location and base for sightseeing. Very impressed with young man who checked us in ( Connor)despite him being the only person covering both reception and busy bar. Triple room in dire need of upgrade. Badly stained carpet, huge crack in the sink, handle falling off or loose on the drawers and dining room doubled as storage for hoovers and outside table umbrellas. No television in room ( or area) as local mast was broken. Booked table for dinner but later told that it had to be cancelled because chef had called in sick. Continental breakfast was very good. Cooked breakfast and dinner very average. Luckily we were visiting family so spent very little time in the hotel.

Stay somewhere else!

The hotel was dirty. Even had cobwebs hanging from the room smoke detector. Mould around the bath. Was at the top of the property, light on stairs to room did not work had to ask for light bulb to be changed. Did not feel covid safe. Would advise anyone thinking of staying there to give it a miss. When tried to raise issues with staff in the morning. They did not care. Hotel is rated at 7.4 feel this is a typing mistake it should be 4.7 and that would still be being generous.

Disappointed

Disappointing - the staff were young, inexperienced, didn’t know what they were doing. The decor of the hotel was tired, old and in desperate need of updating! It was difficult to know who the staff were as there was no uniform or name badges. There was laundry stacked out in the corridor for the 2 days we were there? Our room was clean but in dire need for a makeover. It was dark, tired and old. The mattresses were sunken and uncomfortable. There were no teabags in the room, we had to ask for toilet roll. The shower pole was loose. There was no flow around the hotel, no signage as to where anything was. Breakfast was ok, nicely cooked but again, constantly asking for a spoon, can we have some cups please, have you got a bread knife so I can slice the muffins you’ve laid out??? Do you have any full fat milk instead of skimmed!? The dining room was untidy, decor was very old and tired. The only thing they had going for it was the view! It was frustrating, as it has loads of potential, unfortunately we won’t be going again!

Beautiful picturesque views from our room…. Cosy and clean. Friendly staff especially the young guy behind the bar…. Dissatisfied with menu as can’t justify £10 for scrambled egg on toast or £10 for a sausage sandwich…… Also would suggest laundry was not laying around and hoover always in reception area …. Z beds left outside our room …. Would also suggest background music in the restaurant and bar area … overall a fantastic weekend
