Took a while to get the entry code, very uncomfortable bunk bed, no lights in hallway, huge cockroach in bathroom, and no light switch in room. Only saving grace was the cute kitty that greeted me ... unfortunately though the other one was eating a baby bird.

The staff was very friendly. I liked the improvements to the property since the last time I stayed here 2 years ago. For a hostel in the desert it is very nice.

I made a reservation for May 4 for one night and when I arrived, they told me the room was not available and I could not stay there. I need a credit for this reservation. Please advise.

This property did not provide the type of room I had reserved, they offered another room which I did not wanted and they guided me to call Expedia for cancellation, I called Expedia but the property changed their word telling Expedia they can offer same room, once they knew I am no longer interested in that property, I did not feel safe when I realized they are lying and changing their word constantly, they only wanted to charge me. This was a rubbery, Stay away from this place.

This place has a homey vibe I enjoy. The other guests are nice, the cats and chickens are fun to wake up to. Not perfect, but they are actively improving this hostel, but great prices if you are traveling on a budget.

Objective Feedback: Volunteers were great in helping with check-in, but only saw a staff member one time as they were knocking on the door and telling me to leave by 9am (this was at 8.30am). There is hand written signage everywhere with conflicting information about rates, check out times, etc. The room is a makeshift space with walls that do not reach the ceiling. The bed felt much like sleeping on a floor, I'm in considerable pain the morning after and I couldn't do it again. There were several minivans full of items parked on the property. On the plus side, the room does have a lock and the bathroom had hot water. There are very sweet kitties and chickens with great personalities. The premises felt secure and my car was not bothered during the night. Note: roosters start sounding off very early in the am.

When I pulled up to the property it was not very people friendly looking there was a whole lot of broken down looking cars in the property it looked like just not a safe comfortable place to stay so I did not stay there did not even check in very disappointed with hotels.com for putting that place on the app and I'm not even able to get my money refunded to me very very upset about that I definitely would love to Yelp report and I will definitely be getting a hold of the city of desert Hot springs to have them question the business license of the people there running that business

Ewwww

Ok so this place is a make-shift Hostile from a single family home in the middle of nowhere...no stores or anything walking distance. It felt like a homeless shelter more than anything. Vending machines out in the carport chickens running throughout the entire yard with chicken poop all over the place. Makeshift signs saying that there is a $20 late checkout fee after 11:00 because they make it known they're just for the money. The walls for the rooms that they do have is made from plywood which so thin you can hear every move the other person makes on the other side or even from outside there's no AC even though there's an AC unit that does not turn on and no TV that I saw. I didn't even step foot into the shower let alone use their restroom as soon as the sun came up in the morning I was out of there never again would I ever stay at this place I am surprised that hotels.com even has it as a listing it's pretty sad shows where their quality has gone

Not like European Hostels

I wasn't sure if I would arrive "in time" for check in and was given my entry codes early, which was nice. I did make it in time but there was no one there. I got an individual room and I am so grateful I did. The walls didn't reach the ceiling and there was hardly room for my carry-on suitcase between the bed and the wall, but all the other bunks were in the hallways of the house with no privacy whatsoever. When I got home after dark I couldn't turn house lights on because there were people sleeping and I didn't want to disturb them. The wifi code posted throughout the house didn't work. I texted the contact number when I got there to "check in" and heard back more than 15 hours later, around the time I was checking out, with the actual wifi password - worthless. The place was dark which made it seem dirtier than it was - I had to crawl under the bed cause I dropped my phone and there was no dirt or dust on my sweater when I got out. The 4" mattress was minimal but it was the frame that was awful. If I moved at all it squeaked loud enough to wake the people outside my room, forget rolling over. The single thin blanket was not enough and I have been sneezing since this morning. I didn't go into the bathrooms, I just held it overnight. There were beds right next to the bathroom entrance/exits and it was dark. Someone knocked loudly for hours trying to get in, and there was a cat roaming the house meowing loudly a few different times throughout the night.

I actually left and checked into another hotel as the place felt very unsafe. The owners were arguing. The rooms had no window. I honestly wondered if I would wake up alive in the morning

What can I say, this is not a typical hostel for a young traveler when he/she is traveling on a budget, trying to stay safe, in a clean and comfortable space where there’s a sense of community and an opportunity to meet new and interesting people. This is more like a combination of halfway house with low income people where half of guests is either drunk or stoned, some people “volunteer” there for “room and board”, but except for one lady it’s really hard to say what they really do there. The house is a dirty shack, with plywood walls separating rooms, hair and dead bug laying on the shower floor in the bathroom, a pile of dirty dishes sitting in the sink, everything grimy and sticky to touch. Mattresses in the bedroom were still wrapped in plastic, I didn’t feel comfortable using their sheets, so I slept in my own sleeping bag. Expedia also mentioned free breakfast but there was no breakfast. And the cost was high, I expected much higher quality for $65 a night. I could stay in a nice motel for this price. I really don’t recommend this place and I would never stay there again, even if someone paid me.
Karolina, 1-night trip

Roach-infested Fire Hazard

There were roaches. Then, you couldn’t use the light switches because they had probably illegally remodeled and bypassed the house’s original floor plan by erecting plywood walls to make “bedrooms.” They ignored the fire code by plugging extension cords into other extension cords. Also, the smoke detectors were either removed or didn’t have batteries.
James, 5-night trip

I would have brought food for the pets.

I really enjoyed the wild hosts. They really come alive at night. I met up with the cat right before leaving and you’d barely recognize it since it looks like skin and bones during the day. At night, it resembles a fat cat without loose skin or rolls. Wish I would have known that there were going to be chickens around. I would have brought food. You also need change for the laundry machines. The place was nice and cozy. I kept to myself. It was in good condition when I arrived. I would have used new mops or t shirts in each room for mopping.

Hen and Kitty house

Best staff included two cats and over eight chickens. They decorated the entry and greeted right away. You wouldn’t recognize them at night. Don’t forget to bring them brand new and sealed food.
