A beautiful hotel in a perfect location in Grasmere away from the more crowded areas of the south Lake District. The hotel is clean and well-maintained with helpful staff and a very welcome health spa with jetted pool, sauna and steam room. The location on a beautiful lake opposite the historic William Wordsworth Dove Cottage really could not be more ideal. A five star experience: we extended our stay due to the excellence of the hotel and it's ideal location.

Hotel was fine, but not exceptional. However, there were not enough staff to run the bars in the day/evening. Evening menus were fairly limited and the same each day. We felt that the hotel was extremely overpriced based on the quality of service provided. We stayed for 5 nights and each morning at breakfast we were asked if it was our first visit to the restaurant - an indication of how valued we felt as customers!

The room was great, nice big bed and a cot for my baby. I like that the shower was separate from the bath too. I used the spa. The reception staff were so friendly and always happy to help. Lovely to have access to a small spa after a day of walking, nice hydrotherapy pool, sauna and steam room. Good range of drinks at the bar. Free parking is a bonus and location was great only a 10min walk from Grasmere and a bus stop close to the hotel to reach Ambleside, Keswick and Kendall. Only thing that really lets the place down is the stained carpets!

Our daughter got married here 21 years ago when the hotel was warm,welcoming,full of character and very much Lake District at its best.Now its soulless,clinical and nothing to make it any different from other hotels who have gone up market and are totally lacking Cumbrian atmosphere.You will probably be successful because you are catering for trendy people,who fail to see what the Lake District is all about.
