We had a fabulous time and the location was amazing. I’m not sure I’d stay in the summer as I did not see air conditioning and the one day it was 28 degrees the room was very warm. Otherwise would definitely stay again.

The premium room with queen bed and twin bunks was spacious for NYC. It was nice to have 2 rooms for a family with two teenage boys. That being said, the bunks were uncomfortable. The hotel was clean but shabby. The staff was excellent, friendly, and helpful. You can not beat the location and the price.

Great for the area

Very comfy bed, slept great. Great size room for the area, we had a lot more space than I was expected. If you’ve read reviews about elevator wait times, we waited just as long or longer for elevators at other hotels in the area. It’s just more noticeable here because there’s fewer of them. Welcome to New York lol. Would stay here again as it’s a great value for the neighborhood and was very comfortable for sleeping.

The Gallivant: Highly recommend

I recently stayed at The Gallivant and had a lovely experience overall, but what truly stood out was the incredible hospitality from Rob. We experienced a bit of a hiccup during check-in, but Rob handled it with such professionalism, kindness, and efficiency that any frustration melted away. He went above and beyond to ensure we felt welcomed and taken care of—something that really set the tone for the rest of our stay. Thanks to Rob, what could have been a rocky start turned into a truly memorable visit. The hotel itself is beautiful, but it's the people like Rob who make it exceptional. Highly recommend, and I’ll definitely be back!

The customer service was excellent however the room needed updating. Looked like there was a leak in bathroom and caulk was added but wasn’t installed properly and neatly. We also killed 3 roaches while we were there so we made sure to throw away any food wrappers right away in the lobby trash can. The cleaning lady was very nice and did a great job of keeping the room clean I think the roaches came from a crack in the wall behind a dresser. It was our first time there and it was in Times Square a perfect location. However next time I will most likely stay somewhere else.

Paid for a king bed, since I was traveling with a friend and we wanted plenty of space to sleep. Was told that wasn't available when checking in. Have yet to receive any kind of refund, response, etc. The room we got was dirty and the bathroom door made so much noise that we couldn't use it during the night without waking up the other person.

It’s a budget hotel at way higher than budget prices - the only good thing about it was the location (but the prices were still on the high side for that area). My biggest complaint is the housekeeping - they did a terrible job cleaning the room, but for 2 hours every day, there would be 2-4 housekeepers on the floor screaming at each other from different rooms, making it impossible to sleep past 8:30am (at least in my floor- I assume they move to different locations throughout the day).

Annoying staff but hotel as describe.

Dozen of people lining up at exactly 3 pm because they didn't want to check in anyone even at 2;59. Took till 4 pm lining up. I have a really bad dust allergy and usually don't have to take medicine in most hotel, but this one I definitely had to. I think it's the air system. Room and hallway are very small, but as describe. Bed was comfortable. no Charger by the bed whatsoever. Room service starting to make noise and knock everywhere at 9 am. no 'do not disturb" sign available. isolation is very bad in the hallway. Paid the same price before for much better hotel. checkin out to go somewhere else.

Exceedingly Average

The Gallivant is adequate for a night, maybe 2. But “adequate” is about the best I can say for it. The elevators are cramped, and during my stay one was out of service, which meant there were a couple times (just in a 24-hour stay) when my wife and I had to wait for a couple cycles because the elevator was full. The shower has a half-panel screen with no door, so much of the bathroom floor got wet from water splashing out of the shower. And the bed, while not terrible, did have a noticeable depression in the middle. I can’t say it’s the worst hotel I’ve stayed in in NYC, but I don’t plan on returning to it.

The price was right

The Gallivant was a perfectly serviceable hotel. The location was convenient, and the price was right. I went with my sister and we had twin beds (never saw that in a hotel before). The mattress was comfortable and the room was quiet, so we slept well. The bathroom was tiny with not enough hooks/towel rods. The shower had decent water pressure but it was a European style stall with a half wall and no door, so the floor got wet easily. The only real complaint was that there were no plugs on the wall where the heads of the beds were. We had to recharge our phones from across the room. Inconvenient, but not devastating. If I had traveled with my husband instead, though, he uses a CPAP and absolutely must have a plug available nearer the bed. Perhaps the rooms with king beds are different.

Pretty poor conditions

The place felt like it was falling apart. Small lifts that were not working half the time so had to use stairs. If they were working they were so slow it is easier to take the stairs. Loud area at night. No soap in the dispenser. Floor boards just floating and not even stuck down. Coffee machine didn't work. If it was cheap it would be expected but not for the price they are charging.
