Very mixed feelings with this hotel. There is no question the hotel & surroundings are fantastic. The room was nice & roomy albeit we upgraded to a four poster room. The whole place had a lovely feel about it & I slept the best for a long time.
The fine dining meal was lovely, albeit expensive & a few tweaks needed I think. The restaurant staff go a little too far with their ‘Amazing’s’ & ‘Fantastics’, probably more suited for the Americans. The Spa is very nice & worth a visit.
Unfortunately, the running of the Orangery restaurant was diabolical. The Manageress & staff couldn’t cope with just a handful of tables & worked too slow, resulting in long waits in narrow corridors at breakfast. Too few & too inexperienced staff.
Food quality was ok but not great. Choice was ok. Get rid of those silly serving stations & use pull back lids or serve at the table.
You need to make the most of the veranda area, get some proper seating & parasols on there.
The bar staff & some reception staff were not clued up about choices, menus & timings & quite often got things wrong. Unfortunately we felt like we were in Faulty Towers much of the time, which although amusing much of the time, became a little waring!
This place could be so much more. I feel for you, but when a client is paying good money for a nice visit you need to step it up. I’d stay again but I really hope you’ve got the right people in the right jobs next time.
Be aware taxis can be expensive & a long wait.
