As ever the staff and food offerings were excellent, but there were signs of ageing of the property and it needs some updating in some areas. But overall an excellent holiday in a good location but you do need to allow time and patience if using the local buses into Funchel.

I recently stayed at this resort and I must say, it was a beautiful experience. The resort was stunning and the pool was absolutely amazing. We have stayed at this hotel many times before and the reasons for returning are: - the amazing views from the rooms (floors 5 -10) out over the Atlantic - every room has sun and sea views all day - the spa built into the cliff side with incredible ocean views and wonderful relaxation areas as well as the hydro pool - the sea platform which has a choice of pools and is a sheltered suntrap all day long (we were there in December).

Big hotel. Big rooms. Great pools. Modern, with conference style feel. Remarkable buffet, no need to go up the road and pay extra. Chocolate fountain on two nights. No decaff tea - go next door to the cliff after dinner for that. VidaMar suited us as a great base (we didn’t rent a car), we used bus or booked trips. The ‘west’ jeep discovery tour is a must. Plus all the other go-to places. Walk to Camera de Lobos and get the bus back. Madeira exceeded our expectations.
