Cheap and cheerful hotel, was once a grand old place. Still spotlessly clean with limited but friendly and hardworking staff

This property is not for the posh people but for the down to earth people it was cheap and cheerful but totally acceptable for me it’s close to the beach and the number 12 bus route slightly longer walk to the town centre but easy doable… I would have no problem staying there again

Location good. Should have stayed closed and be revamped with some serious money invested in it. Expedia should remove it from there web site!

If you want the backpacker hotel experience without flying to Thailand, this is it. Not particularly clean, couldn't supply a cot or fridge for meds. Staff mostly absent and generally felt like it was a front for a money laundering scheme. Great location near the sea front!

6/10 Good

Midweek break

Facilities are surprisingly good. En suite....continuous (very) hot water. Good bed , tv and tea making facilities. Building stiflingly hot including bathroom even though the rads were off!!! Clearly a drain problem leading to smell in the corridors although to be fair most of torquay seemed to have the same problem. The carpets and decor need to be addressed as a matter of urgency and then the rooms would be acceptable. However it must be put into the perspective of £26 / night for a double room!!!!!!!!!!! The staff were real nice.

Avoid room 20 - decor falling off the wall, no smoke detector (it's in the drawer waiting to be attached to the ceiling). Road noise is amplified - very very noisy. No aircon so shutting the window to keep out the noise is unpleasant in the recent very hot weather. Noisy people in room above - you can hear their footsteps quite clearly and lots of tapping and shouting into the early hours too. Managed 2 hours sleep!! Bad water leak into the bathroom from the room above. No manager on duty when we departed for the day and expected to be very late, so left an explanatory note requesting another room for our second night. Manager called me later in the morning, and arranged another room (no. 12), and remained contactable until after 11pm to make sure we could collect the room key when we returned. That was great service by him. Parking spaces are limited and very tight. Property is old and very tired - it was probably very nice at one time. Bathroom and bedding very clean - big plus point. It is inexpensive so the maxim you get what you pay for applies.
