We have come to this property for many years in the past and appreciate the location and the historic nature of the building. However, we realize that the property, which advertises itself as a boutique bed and breakfast, has not been maintained or improved and is currently in disrepair. For example, the windows and blinds are not fully functioning. The room paint needs attention, and the carpet buckles. Amenities we enjoyed in the past, like the nice breakfast and cheese and wine, are missing. Breakfast is a small bowl of yogurt and small pastries are set out, perhaps from Smart and Final. Staff seems pleasant but without any authority or knowledge. Daily room cleaning is not offered unless requested. Although we have stayed at the property for many years, we will not go back at any price, but it was overpriced for what we received.

As a historic hotel with relatively good rates, this is not a luxury hotel. Rooms are on smaller side (there are choices in size) towels less fluffy white, floors creaky, most parking is very near on the street. There are lots of pluses....It's well located to the beach and food options, staff is super friendly. There's a very nice public area to sit w wine and cookies in the afternoon, and a garden patio area outside. Enjoy Joghurt w granola an fresh fruit at breakfast. This is a repeat stay place for us.

This was by far the cutest hotel we stayed in during our recent California trip. We stayed in the third floor in a surprisingly large space. It’s an older hotel (was a boarding house in a past life), but it’s in a quiet neighborhood, close to good restaurants, and a short walk to the beach park. Would absolutely stay here again. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful.

The best thing I can say about our stay was that the room appeared to have clean linens and the desk clerk was very nice. The room was terribly neglected: bed was visibly lumpy, saggy and old, carpet had folds/bumps in it and did not seem clean, the floor actually had a hole in it, covered by carpet. There was no AC. There were patches in the bathroom wall covered by mismatched paint. The paint overall was worn and this room was TIRED. I don’t know when the photos on the website were taken but they were not representative of the actual state of the room.

I’m sharing this review to provide a realistic picture for future guests, as the high price tag (it was $190w/taxes & fees in October for one night) & positive reviews didn’t align with our experience. While I really wanted to appreciate the historic charm, the property felt neglected rather than "classic." The Positives: The location is unbeatable—centrally located near the beach, coffee shops, and Main Street. Additionally, the staff was nice and the breakfast pastries & yogurt were a highlight. The Reality of the Property: Unfortunately, the maintenance is in a state of visible neglect. Our room featured chipping paint, peeling wallpaper, and carpets that were unacceptably dirty. The towels were so thin and dingy they felt more like rags than hotel linens. Outside, the "garden" was a collection of nearly dead plants and broken fountains, and the greenery at the entrance was noticeably infested with mealybugs, toppled over and in plastic pots. Final Thought: Given the premium cost, the lack of basic upkeep was a major letdown. If you are expecting a polished historic stay, just be aware that the current condition of the hotel is quite dilapidated. The pictures on the site were nothing like what I experienced. I am sad to leave such a poor review but feel it necessary to do so. Luckily we were only staying for one night and we arrived late in the evening but this could have ruined our anniversary trip.

At first look, the hotel is very old. The carpet in the room was ancient and needed replacing and the room smelled musty. However, overall the experience was very good with a great breakfast, staff, wine hour and helpfulness when deciding where to eat. It is centrally located and within walking distance to beaches, parks, restaurants and shopping. I would likely stay there again.
