The staff at this hotel are wonderful, very responsive and great at making you feel welcome. Room was very clean, love the way things are decorated and very comfortable. I tend to run cold but housekeeping provided blankets very quickly! Will definitely stay again when we visit our family in DC. Thank you very much. DC has many hotels to offer and I've stayed in many of them over the years when my travel to DC was always work related. Hotel Nell was a delight and a jewel among a lot of very nice but predictable hotels that are typical. Hotel Nell is just fun and unique. Don't miss the opportunity to stay there and the location is also fantastic. NOMA is a very fun area with lots of delightful finds to discover in the area.

The staff were really nice. The location is pretty good and it's nice that they have on-site restaurants. The room was not set up conveniently, where the desk had a desk lamp and a coffee maker, but no nearby outlet (or extension cord).

Pretty good hotel with pros and cons. Pros: it is different from chain hotels, the staff is great and the neighborhood feels to an extent like the DC version of funky Bushwick in Brooklyn. Cons: the hotel has very few parking spots, the water pressure in the shower is very weak and the hotel has no gym.

A very hip, industrial style hotel with an excellent breakfast. The rooms were spacious, clean and had a good sized desk. Staff was really nice. Only drawback was no on-site fitness facility. There is a partnership with a center nearby but it wasn't explained at check in and website explanation seemed complicated. WiFi was out when I was there. ATT cell reception wasn't great in my room. Better in lobby but still not strong.

The first night of our stay an unknown person tried to access our room - twice - while we were sleeping. waking us up. When I alerted the front desk attendant, she told me management reviewed security footage and filed a report based on what they saw (they believed it was another guest who was drunk) but we were not provided additional information, offered a different room, or any form of discount for the situation. We were only booked for two nights so we stayed, but it was a very uncomfortable second night.

Check in was a bit awkward. There is no loading zone, and very limited parking, so I had to go across the alley and park. I would’ve loved to have been able to drop my luggage off first. The door to the lobby is right off the “parking lot” (5 spaces) and is an active drive through so you couldn’t leave your car to quickly check in and drop bags. My room was facing the street and it was very loud from the noise outside. I was on the 4th floor and was disturbed throughout the night. Rooms and common spaces were cute. Nicely decorated and spacious. Location was good as well.

The good part: Staff was courteous , rooftop restaurant food was good , fast and inexpensive. Prices for carry away from the pantry were very reasonable. The room is clean and the bed comfortable. This is the second time we've stayed here, and we'll probably stay again. This time we were placed in a smaller space that overlooks the highway. It is VERY noisy and drafty through the windows. You'll hear police, firetrucks, honking, loud music, loud exhausts, horns honking, trains blowing horns, even the occasional pedestrian conversation. Try to get a room in the back of the hotel. Also a couple amenities could make life easier here: a surface in the bathroom to put a hairdryer on (instead of putting it in the wet bowl of the sink), a half in the shower, better water pressure (1.5 gallon per minute?). More parking options and explanations. More towels. everyone is so nice though, and the price is reasonable for the neighborhood. See you next year probably!

The creative decor of this place makes it feel more like visiting an old friend. The seating areas in the lobby and scattered throughout the former seed company make it feel so cozy! The staff is friendly and attentive. You could sense their enthusiasm for working there!
It’s so cool that their decor is reminiscent of and a tribute to the building’s former purpose.
Each shelf shows plants taking root in glass jars with water.
