Instructions for check-in were very clear, loved my room and the view from the balcony and the sauna. I don't think I saw another person while I was there which I loved! Would stay again

Good stay

Classic old house, beautiful woodwork, the heat system works really well. Beautiful views.

Nice place, Have been there before, Booked on the day of arrival, so understand that coffee, popcorn ... isn't stocked. But, couldn't get the ceiling light switch to work. Nice sauna. May have tried it if I hadn't arrived so late. Looking forward to you planting the grounds. Love the sound of the creek.

We stayed for a long weekend and found the property beautiful, quiet and clean. There wasn’t really staff around but that was okay because everything seemed to be taken care of behind the scenes. The location was conveniently close to canal park and was simply beautiful. Definitely be staying there again.

Not your typical sterile hotel room. Felt cozy, yet pampered in a beautiful spacious room in a mansion in old Duluth. Loved the area full of beautiful old homes. Tastefully decorated, bed very comfortable! Loved the new shower too.

Beautiful room

We had a wonderful stay at the GG Barnum Mansion in the Jay Cooke suite. The room was large and the bed was ver comfortable. The large shower was a dream we appreciated the little extra touches, like information about restaurants, filled ice cube trays, water bottles and although we didn’t use it—there was even a bag of microwave popcorn for us! I would highly recommend a stay here if you’re in Duluth.

Almost everything about our stay was perfect. Our room as well as common areas were beautiful. The only struggle was the potential of having a cold shower if the hot water was out.

Nice book shelf to choose from. Enjoyed the sound of the creek at the property edge. Hadn't had gratis microwave popcorn in ages. Fun!

I took a solo trip to Duluth and can't say enough wonderful things about this property! Even though it was located in town, the property has the feel of being outside the city; quiet and beautiful. I drove to Duluth so it was convenient for me but walking to things might be a little far. I also appreciated the welcome message that told me exactly what was provided in my room. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a getaway!

The Superior Suite was beautiful! Some reviews mentioned breakfast but that is incorrect, The website was correct in that it served pastries and those cannot be considered breakfast. This was my only complaint but overall the mansion was very well maintained and very tastefully decorated. Would recommend this place.

Beautiful, quiet, safe, and unique. Outdoor balcony was lovely as well as the room and entire mansion. Only recommendation is to vacuum the stairs since we are asked to remove shoes. Great experience and would like to stay again for even longer.Thank you. Grateful to find this.

Great Weekend Getaway

This is a beautiful property. Our suite was gorgeously-appointed, clean, well-organized and comfortable. The area in which the house is located is quiet and very easy to access from downtown Duluth…mere minutes from anything! While there is no front desk and we didn’t see or interact with the staff, we felt their presence in the details—welcome email and text with context info, morning coffee and pastries, a basket of umbrellas at the front door (much needed last weekend!)…this is a property I would stay in again and recommend to friends.
The Jay Cooke Suite was perfect for us.
Jennifer, 2-night trip

We were there at 4 pm. We had an early morning procedure. There was construction noise and loud boots upstairs until midnight.
Jess, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

The property is beautiful in a nice walking neighborhood. The house is amazing. Our room was nice with a comfortable bed and two cushy chairs for reading. Also had access to a rooftop seating area. Sadly, the bathroom looked very run down. The jetted tub didn’t work. The motor came on but it wouldn’t move the water. The drinking glasses were very water stained. In such a love place, that is something that is disappointing. Don’t count on breakfast if you plan to relax and sleep in. We got downstairs at 8 a.m. and there were 2 pieces of what looked like banana bread left. Not a big deal, we just went to a restaurant to eat. I would stay there again but choose a different room.
Mary Jo, 2-night trip

8/10 Very good

The location was very good. The size of the room was great in the Veranda Suite and was nicely supplied and very clean inside the room. The house was easily accessible by car. It was easy to enter the house and room using the codes. The place was very safe. We didn’t not hear noise from the other rooms and I believe the house was full. I could not get the Samsung cooling system to work with the remote control such as turning the fan on and off or turning the unit off. The TV was somewhat confusing in not know what was available. Either do the pastries up good or nothing at all. What was there was really unacceptable. Everything else was spot on and very comfortable.

Jay Cooke Suite

The check-in instructions were not sent until an hour before we were booked to check-in. We were told the instructions would be sent at 2pm by one of the staff at GG Mansion, and they weren't sent until 3:10 pm for a 4:00 check-in. The instructions to get to our room were missing. The communication was poor. The room was nice, however trying to sleep with an air conditioner that didn't work on 65 degrees which made our room feel like it was 80 degrees, and made a flapping noise every 3-4 seconds was very difficult. The Jay Cooke room is not a suite to rent if you want to get rest or stay cool. My husband and I are very disappointed with our stay.
Dominique, 2-night trip

8/10 Very good

The mansion was lovely and in a beautiful neighborhood. Location made it easy to visit family and friends. However, I would not choose to stay at this location again for a few different reasons. First, when we arrived it was about 10 PM and it was positively pitch dark in the hallway in front of our room. So much so that we had to use flashlights in order to put in the code to get into our room. This felt extremely unwelcoming. Then when we got in the room, we discovered that the bathroom was actually a Butler’s pantry that has been converted. The toilet was tucked under the pantry in such a way that you might hit your head and the sink was on the Butler’s counter with no mirror or good lighting in order to shave or apply make up. In addition, the beautiful shower that has been added does not close properly and thus water leaks out onto the floor. The breakfast pastries were not worth eating and there were several mistakes in the welcome book and directions (it is on the right- not the left) that made me feel this place isn’t all that well cared for. It wasn’t worth the money.
