I couldn't rate this hotel high enough! Even from before we landed, I received an email from the hotel letting me know if I had any questions which was well received given there were going to be train strikes when we landed. They suggested a bus transfer which was actually much more convenient as it stopped at the top of the street! Hotel is week placed in a quiet area but literally 5 mins from beautiful eateries and shops. Staff were fantastic, nothing was ever too much bother. There were facilities for holding your luggage and free tea and coffee in the very clean and pleasant reception. I have already recommended this hotel to others and will definitely be starting here if we come back.

Perfect historic small hote

Hotel Alexander was a delight. Modest rooms with everything ones needs, Clean, blackout curtians, good windows that open, great WiFi. This historic hotel is well located a tiny bit away from the crazy zones. Lots of nearby local transportaion only a block or so away. Walk to the Museum zone, many restaurants nearby. The staff was great, the breakfasts delicious and plenty to eat. The back garden area is a treat. I would stay again.

We had a 4 bed room, on the basementfloor. It was so cold! We had to sleep with long sleevd shirts and trousers. It was stains on the towels and showercurtain. It was a lot of dust in the corners and poor pressure on the water in the shower. We had our own balcony (floor level) were other guests sat down to smoke, even if we had our balconydoor open! As four young girls we didn’t appriciate having strangers sitting down and smoke on OUR furniture! The staff was wonderful thoe and the breakfast had everything you needed. The receptionfloor was clean and tidy, and well docorated.

Great location and staff, poor room

Hotel staff lovely, very friendly. Location great, very close to good public transport links to city centre and airport. Unfortunately the room wasn't great - quite dated overall, missing some modern conveniences (e.g. no power sockets next to the bed for charging devices, no in room thermostat), but the main things were 1) the windows which were incredibly draughty and let in almost all of the street noise which disturbed our sleep quite badly, and 2) the shower over the bath which I could not stand up fully in without hitting my head (I'm 185cm)

We paid extra to have the room ready at noon instead of normal 3 pm check in since we had a red eye flight. Sadly, it wasn’t ready and we waited 45 mins, sleeping in the lobby. They were super nice about it and didn’t charge us the early check in fee so that was nice. We stayed in room 1, which was a bit noisy as it was street side and with no AC the windows were wide open.

Pros: Nice location in a quiet area, walkable to sights, near the Vondelpark/Museum quarter. Small hotel in a historic building. The lobby was well decorated, and offered delicious coffee/hot chocolate for free 24/7. Beds comfortable. Staff friendly. Cons: the room itself was very cramped- barely large enough for 2 people and their luggage. Room decor was very basic, and the bathroom shower did not seem so clean. Dirty carpet too.

The room was very small but clean and cozy. I slept well. The bathroom was larger than many others I experienced in Europe and the shower did not send water all over the floor. The staff was friendly. The free coffee/tea in the lobby was appreciated. The location was convenient but on a quiet street that was safe and relaxing. The train station was a 10-15 minute walk away. I would stay here again.
