Small rooms. Not much for breakfast.

Unfortunately the downstairs restaurant and bar is CLOSED indefinitely! Hotel is nicely remodeled for it's age!

It appeared the bar and grill was out of service. The hotel itself was like a museum going back in time. The room was clean with old school wooden furnishings. I enjoyed my stay but ate at the local diners on main street. Hotel reminded me of the movie "The Shining". I thought it was pretty cool seeing the vintage furnishings.

We loved our stay. From the outside the hotel looks run down and not operational but once inside it is gorgeous. The staff were so nice and shared the history of the building. Beautiful old hotel from 1870. Each room is decorated differently. The staircase defines grand. Bed was very comfortable and it was so quiet. We will be back for sure.

Historic grandeur that needs some TLC to retain its glory. Clean and pretty, but a bit forgotten, it seems.

The staff was very friendly - greeted us everytime we walked in. And helpful by carrying our suitcase up the steps. It is an older building so the rooms are smaller but we expected that and enjoyed the individual charm and the coziness. There was a Mexican restaurant on the same block which was nice to walk to and the food was good.

A Shadow of the past greatness

Had stayed at the decker 10 years ago when their bar and restaurant were operating and was excellent. Both are closed now and there is just not a lot else in maquoketa. Place was nearly empty except for us even though there were some events going on in the area. Still a unique and well preserved old hotel but could use a few room updates such as fridge . There also was no ice machine in the place. A minor annoyance but those add up. All in all it was acceptable but not great.

The hotel is pretty cool because it is historic and on the main street. The rooms are small but again, it is a historic hotel. Noise comes from the halls easily. Our bed was a double, not the queen we reserved and it was also very noisy. I know it sounds bad :) but even the tiniest movements in the bed were loud and would wake me up. Comfort and cleanliness were okay. Also, bring a blow dryer if you use one, they are not included. Check in and out were extremely easy and quick.

I will definitely never stay here again. We booked this hotel room because it was advertised to be a hotel and bar, turns out that the bar is not open. This would’ve been nice to know ahead of time. We would have booked a room in a different place if we would’ve known that the bar was not an option. Also, there is very limited parking that we were not notified about. You can’t park on the street at night, there is side parking off of the building, but all the spots were full. We were forced to park in a sketchy parking lot with sign saying that we were probably going to be towed or we could’ve parked three blocks away in a residential area. To top it all off we found a cockroach in our room. And now the hotel will not respond to phone calls or emails regarding a refund. We left a whole day early due to a cockroach in our room. When we went to go talk to somebody at the front desk, there was nobody there. We ended up leaving a full day early and going to the laundromat and spending $50 to wash all of our laundry. Oh, and we were never provided a Wi-Fi password.

GOOD: room clean and well kept, good water pressure, quiet hotels, bed and linens good BAD: the name of the place is Decker Hotel and Bar. but the bar and restaurant were closed. no note of this when i made the reservation. I wasn't able to get a clear answer as to if it was a temporary or permanent problem because the host who was there all weekend barely spoke english. He would answer but i really struggled to understand what he was saying.

No f no way

Place was scary and no bar or restaurant the guy could tell my cousin and I anything about anything the door lock had gray duct tape on it and a man kept peeking out at us every time we walked in. So scary we packed up and left and when we left I put the keys on the desk and a man came out in pjs and bare feet. We were scared as soon as we got there. We are both in our forties so it takes a lot to freak us out. No way could I sleep there we got a queen as cousins thinking that’s fine no the room was tiny not what was shown with an old little bed We could have gotten through that as us gals grew up together so no biggie but the vibe was insanely scary. I wish we could get our money back but we were willing to pay the 116 and dive out because it was insanely scary. We dug deeper and they rent it out at 600 a month explains a lot F no to this do not go unless you want to be scared out of your mind It reminded us of American horror story hotel

The Decker Hotel & Bar was very quaint. The staff was accommodating and friendly. They had a cute little bar where we could enjoy a lovely cocktail. Fully enjoyed the town of Maquoketa IA. If you go to the Maquoketa Cave State Park and need a place to stay look up the Decker Hotel & Bar. Fully enjoyed the town of Maquoketa IA

Very clean, impeccably decorated with antiques reflective of the time it was built. Fascinating! Best hotel I’ve stayed at in many, many years.

Hotel had limited staffing, and as such the bar and restaurant were shut during our stay. The room itself was very nice, especially for an older hotel, and the staff was friendly and professional

There is no restaurant in the hotel anymore, but several close by. Elevator didn't work but room was nice.

A place to relax after a long day of hiking

This is an old hotel with amazing charm. It seems they are going through a large renovation to update the building. The elevator is out of order and made getting luggage upstairs a little difficult. Our room fee was to include breakfast each morning but not offered on Sunday. There is a bar and restaurant in the basement that has not been opened in quite some time. Overall, our stay was very comfortable. and

Quiet and Comfy

We had a comfortable bed with a big room, but the hotel itself is very run down. We did not see anyone else staying there during our trip. The restaurant is closed but they still have signs around advertising it. The service was helpful and good but it needs an overhaul.

Coolest Hotel Stay

Very unique and comfortable stay. Spacious and beautifully decorated rooms and each one unique from the other. The bed was so comfortable and we had been sleeping at mostly chain hotels and we got some excellent sleep at the Decker Hotel. Our room came with cute views of the quaint downtown area and the staff was super accommodating to our every need. They left us a personal put together breakfast outside the door the next morning too! Overall a really unique and fun stay for all of my family. Highly recommend you stay here if you’re passing through Iowa.
