The property had amazing gardens. The house itself was a bit dated, not that we minded, but it had everything we needed and the host was so helpful. Lovely breakfasts with home made jam went down a treat

Enjoyable stay

The hotel is in convenient location for access to main routes to the attractions nearby. The room was comfortable. Breakfast was most enjoyable. Parking is easy. There is a large garden the owners take great pride in.

Charmed.

If you like a real log fire on a cold night, cosy and clean accommodation, charming hosts and a good hearty breakfast, this is the place for you! Nothing was too much trouble and it was nice to get a real feel and understanding of the local area. The garden is a real treat!

Very quirky property, full of history. Stunning gardens and views across valley. Room and en suite very clean and nice comfy bed. Definitely recommend reading the welcome file in the room, has to be the best I've seen. Charming host and the breakfast was delicious all locally sourced produce.

I arrived to a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the wonderful husband and wife hosts, who by their own admission are classic car ‘petrol heads’ (kit-cars a speciality). This traditional B and B has all the expected comforts and a breakfast menu ‘not to miss’ incorporating many home made options. A truly delightful stay; and I will definitely return.

Homely B & B

We really enjoyed the warm, homely hospitality at this wonderfully traditional B & B. Our bed was super comfortable. The Wif-fi was excellent. In the morning Yolande cooked our breakfast as we chatted. Absolutely delicious. Pancakes to die for. Recommend.

Return visit after 18 years

I first stayed at Brownhill in 2006 while I was helping my daughter to settle in to her first job, at PGL, Boreatton Park. To give her space and time to settle in, I stayed at Brownhill House each time she had a day off, for her first few weeks, and travelled myself in between visits (to show her that if Mum can do it, then so can she!). This is probably my last trip to the UK, and I chose Brownhill again as it's close to the Ironwork Centre near Oswestry. The place is still as lovely and inviting as before, and Yolande is just as lovely as she was last time. Breakfast was perfect for me again, and I'm really glad I booked to stay there again.

Best weekend in a village B&B

From the moment we booked this B&B to the minute we left , we were treated like it was a 5 star hotel. Communications by email was great, check in was at our convenience, the welcome...oh my!! Second to none. Our room was just as it says in all their adverts, clean and comfortable, location was a bit far from shrewsbury, so one will need a car but Brownhill house's garden and hospitality made up for the distance. Yolanda and Roger are just lovely, guests are treated like families . Oh, as for breakfast, make sure you're hungry in the morning, it is lush! The owners are great and under rated. Their garden is absolutely beautiful. A national heritage. Thank you both for a beautiful weekend. The village of Ruyton X1 Towns is now on my map. We will come again.

4/10 Fair

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my stay at Brownhill House was so disappointing that I feel a responsibility to warn others. Even before arrival, the communication was poor. I emailed twice about my vegan dietary needs (which their website says they can cater for) and received either no reply or answers that ignored my questions. Check‑in was the worst I’ve experienced. When I asked again about vegan options, the host, Yoland, made several rude comments, including “We don’t have plastic bread,” “I thought you’d bring your own,” and “You ask strange questions.” She also emphasised that they use “loads of butter and drippings,” saying oil “won’t be nice.” I wasn’t shown where breakfast was served, just taken to my room. The bins had no bags, and the bathroom bin contained used tissues. Breakfast on the first morning was very small, with warm juice, and I felt too uncomfortable to ask about ingredients. The second morning, with a regular guest present, the breakfast was noticeably larger and the juice cold. Conversations at breakfast were pleasant, but the inconsistency was obvious. The building itself is charming, with a cosy room, deep bath, books, and thoughtful extras. Check‑out was fine. However, none of this outweighs the unacceptable check‑in and dismissive attitude toward dietary needs. If you value basic courtesy and respectful communication, I strongly recommend staying elsewhere. Had to largely reduce review due to character 1500 limit
