We really enjoyed our stay for two nights at Battlesteads. Two things really stood out - the food was excellent (except chips - a minor thing), and the staff were consistently friendly, helpful, and welcoming without being overbearing. The last point, about how all staff were nice to interact with, was a major selling point and is why we will return. A special shout out to Dan ("Dan, Dan, the beverage man") for being so helpful and recommending Flyte - a top tip! Ad Gefrin sold two bottles to us as a result! Such a pleasant time, great food, and drink, and an impressive walking guide (which we used) and an observatory on the door step!

We had a lovely stay here. Our room was a good size, as was the bathroom, including a jacuzzi bath. We enjoyed the little extras, such as fruit and cookies and bottled water. The bed was really comfortable and we had everything we needed. The hotel is in a good location to enjoy Hadrians wall and the roman forts, also the Sycamore Gap walk. The food and service at breakfast and dinner was very good. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. There is also a star gazing observatory on site, which we have enjoyed on a previous visit.

A lovely stay in a beautiful part of the world. We stayed in one of the accessible rooms, so can’t comment on the other accommodation, but our room was clean, if a little dated. The real positives were the staff, genuinely lovely and welcoming – along with excellent food and a great selection of local beers on tap. We also enjoyed chatting with some fellow guests who were repeat visitors, which says a lot about the place. Overall, a relaxed and friendly hotel in a fantastic location, and somewhere we’d be happy to return to.

All but one of the staff absolutely lovely. Unfortunately it only takes one to dampen the whole stay. Quite noisy rooms in the ground floor, main building and variable food. They have a trophy cupboard full of hospitality awards so it's just possible our off-season visit was just poor timing but we're unlikely to rush back.

We booked this at the last minute as we were travelling up to the Scottish borders and wanted to break the journey due to the extreme heat. We arrived very late (about 11pm) but we had called the hotel in advance and one of the staff agreed to wait for us. When we did arrive we were greeted with a very warm welcome. Our one regret is that we didn't have time to make use of the observatory (yes you read that right!) All staff very friendly and helpful and loved the breakfast

We had a warm welcome on a very rainy February day. Our room was warm and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was really good. The weather stopped us visiting the Observatory, which was a shame. We will definitely visit again at a different time of year, as the hotel is well placed to visit places of interest.

This hotel is a real find. We stayed here on our way home from the highlands. If travelling by motorcycle the entrance is a tight turn into the car park and the first part of the car park is on an incline, so thought needs to be given to how you park the bike. There is a further car park at the back which is much flatter. But don’t let the car park on an incline put you off, this hotel is a real find and well worth it. From the outset, the staff were amazing, very attentive, friendly and willing to help. Our room had everything we needed, it was clean and had plenty of space for us. There was a lovely touch of a fruit bowl and fresh fruit which I have not had before in a hotel room. This was in addition to the coffees teas, hot chocolate etc. The bar was well stocked with some very good ales and as the weather was so good during our day we enjoyed several whilst utilising their lovely garden. We ate in the restaurant for both the evening meal and for breakfast. The food is first class as is the service. The building obviously has a lot of history and there was a notice board in reception that listed the wildlife seen recently in the local area. Whilst we were sipping our beers in the garden we were treated to a sparrowhawk take down a pigeon- wow! I can definitely recommend The Battlestead hotel and hope to return soon
