Disappointing Stay at Riverside Hotel, Kenilworth — Room 228 (23rd to 26th June)
I stayed at the Riverside Hotel in Kenilworth between 23rd and 26th June 2025, and unfortunately, the experience was far from satisfactory.
To begin with, room 228 lacked a desk or table, making it impossible to carry out any work comfortably. For a hotel that claims to accommodate business travellers, this is a basic and expected amenity that was noticeably absent.
On the first morning, the fire alarm began sounding at 6:30am and continued every two minutes for a prolonged period. This was incredibly disruptive and completely ruined any chance of a restful start to the day.
The main light in the room wasn’t working, meaning the room remained dimly lit throughout the stay — an issue that should have been identified and rectified prior to check-in.
Dinner was also a disappointment. I ordered the lamb curry, which, although it had decent flavour, only included six small pieces of meat. For the price charged, this felt stingy and poor value.
Incredibly, over the entire four-day, three-night stay, the room was supplied with just one 20ml bottle of bath/shower gel — which is frankly ridiculous for a stay of that length. It gives the impression of cost-cutting at the expense of basic guest comfort.
To make matters worse, from the second day onward, my room key stopped working, requiring repeated walks back to reception to have it reset. This was an unnecessary and frustrating inconvenience.
