Nice hotel close to the bus station for Guanacaste. I've stayed her a couple of times and the staff is always super friendly. This part of San Jose can be noisy with street noise but I was fortunate in having an interior room and it was very quiet. The interior of the hotel is tastefully decorated and beautiful. I'll stay here again.

The night we arrived the water pump broke, and there was only limited time with water during our stay. Old building things can happen, but after a long drive we arrive and can’t shower or use the washroom not optimal. And limited use of water the next day. No compensation. Bad wifi in the rooms. Supernice staff in the reception!

Rundown but with nice staff

This place is quite rundown and not as nice as it looks in the photos. However, the breakfast is okay, and the staff are very friendly. It's well located, as you can simply walk along the same street and reach the Mercado Central and other attractions. Even though it's located on a very trafficked street, the room that we got was really quiet.

This is a beautifully restored Victorian house. The breakfast is delicious, the staff and owner couldn't be nicer or more facilitating. We were able to leave our luggage there all day and pass the time in the lobby. The area isn't very nice but when you're in hotel you aren't aware of it. The second floor rooms are up the stairs, since there's no elevator.

A very good stay.

I would like to first say thank you to Cameron. Christian, Dorothy, and Julio for being wonderful hosts during my brief stay. Each of them at different times went out of their way to make me feel welcome. The Victorian Hotel is a wonderful older house with classic charm. Aside from the charm, it had plentiful hot water, my room had a great big bathtub tha was great to soak in, and each room has air conditioning. Soap, hair dryer, everything good expect to find, you will.. It's in a perfect spot on Paseo Colon which is a heavy traffic, main boulevard but you'll hear little city noise. The free breakfast is huge and tasty and would run you close to twenty US dollars at Sopa Tapia. The people and the place represent the spirit of San José very well. Again, my thanks.

Upon arrival from a long day of traveling from Arizona, we checked in to our room. Originally it was myself and my best friend flying in. Another friend at the last minute was able to go on my birthday trip with us. We had a wonderful experience checking in at night. The gentleman who checked us in, went above and beyond to get our car parked behind a gate and was very friendly. The 3 of us got settled in. We were beyond tired and went to bed. About 30 minutes after getting settled in, the A/C unit was dripping water steadily on my mattress next to my head as I was about to fall asleep. I went to the front desk and got the front attendant. He was very apologetic and ultimately I decided to ask him to get a bucket to catch the water and I moved my bed away from the wall about 4 feet. I wasn’t offered another solution like a different room, so I offered a solution. The next morning while we were going to breakfast, a different man pulled me to the side to tell me I owed $25 more dollars because of an extra person I brought. When I booked this room it said it had 2 Full beds and slept 4. I asked him if he was aware of the inconvenience I had in the middle of the night. His English was pretty broken and my Spanish was as well. Initially on arrival, we raved about the hotel but charging me $25 when we were inconvenienced and offered no other solution, I can honestly say I wouldn’t go back and would not recommend staying there. It is a beautiful 160 year home/hotel.
