This is a remote town in the West Fjords and it was after the main season so choices for accommodation, dining, and food shopping were limited. The guesthouse and our room was fine. It was disappointing to find that they were not providing breakfast, as indicated on the reservation, and the internet was down (and had been for a while according to other reviews). The host (we never saw him, we contacted him by phone to learn about breakfast and the internet) was pleasant but no help.

The owner (Jónas) was very friendly and helpful, and provided lots of insider information about the people and places around town. Our room was very quiet, which was welcome - but I should have asked for fresh towels, as they didn’t dry fully even a day later and needed to lay on the heater. Warning: the bathroom ran out of hot water by my turn to shower the first morning, so I knew enough to get up VERY early the next day. We were surprised that breakfast wasn’t provided, though the listing showed it as included - but Jónas messaged me in advance so we knew to bring food with us. He did have really good coffee and tea, so could function. :) (This late in the season, one restaurant was down to “We have char, cod, or fish soup made of cod” so this isn’t unusual for the area.)

The Tálknafjörður Guesthouse was a very convenient stop in the Westfjords with a beautiful view over the fjord. The room was large and well equipped with linens, blackout shades, and even a TV. There was a kitchen that guests could use and it was very convenient to have breakfast available. The staff could have been more observant and quick to replenish breakfast items and clear tables. Check-in was super easy as guests' first names and room numbers were listed by the door.

Tálknafjörður Guesthouse was a very cozy guesthouse, located about 12 km drive from Patreksfjörður, with a good-quality road connecting the two places. We were two people staying in a double room. The room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom and toilet were located in the hallway. There was a self-check-in system, and the key was hanging by the entrance door. The other guests were friendly. There was a large shared kitchen and a communal dining room, which worked very well. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. They told us about Tálknafjörður and gave us excellent tips on what to see and experience in the area. A short walk away was a small shop, Hjá Jóhönnu, which sold groceries and other essentials. The local café, Hópið, was only a few minutes’ walk from the guesthouse. We would be very happy to stay here again next year.

Rather basic, rough accommodations. No staff present and everything was left up to the user. It’s sufficient if you have no other choices, but don’t expect much other than a bed to sleep on.
