4/10 Fair

The bed cover was dirty and full of stains. When turned the bath tap on the shower head shot off in the air with the water pressure. I was using the bath luckily. Looks like it is broken not even attached! Finding out at checkin that there is no breakfast at all for morning was disappointing. The tea kettle tray on window sill has what looks like a piece of hard bird poo. That’s about it, a bit disappointing overall!! lady next to me in restaurant had an off cheesecake, I was going to order!

God stemning og nydelig mat

Jeg elsket dette hotellet! Rommet var litt lite, men fint. God dusj. Hard seng og harde puter. Restauranten og baren var skikkelig koselig! God stemning og fyr i peisen. Maten var helt fantastisk! Beste på hele turen vår i England. Kommer gjerne tilbake!

6/10 Good

The pub was lively and welcoming. The room however, although clean, was in need of redecorating and the facilities were quite worn.

Felt that the ventilation in the room needed improvement, particularly stuffy on warm nights.

A lovely overnight stay.

A lovely overnight stay. Lovely old pub and a great breakfast. Comfortable bed and a nice room. The only criticism is the bathroom extractor fan didn't work and the room became quite steamy after a shower. Putting that aside, we will definitely stay there again.

Overnight stay

Amazing food, lovely location, rooms tastefully decorated, but need better soundproofing from adjoining rooms. Also the skip outside was not a welcome sight.

2/10 Poor

CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS SO POOR

We arrived round 9pm and by the time the gentleman who was showing us to the room had taken us there it had reached 9.03pm and he informed us we now could not get any food as they stopped serving at 9. (due to covid restrictions we couldn't be in the bar without food so we just had to stay in the room and the tv didnt work. He turned on the radiator to warm up the freezing cold room (rooms not attached to pub). I had called to give our ETA; why didnt they turn the heat on then? The fire alarm went off 3 times, no one cared; the same guy did come out and turn it off rather quickly each time though. The heat went off during the night so the room was very cold all night. There were 3 or 4 spiders in the corner of the cold bathroom. Despite the room and en suite being old and cold it was very clean, the bed was comfy and the shower was good and hot the next morning, and thankfully the heat had come back on round 6 or 7am. It was a strange experience and a disappointing stay, but maybe it was just our specific circumstances. It wasnt all bad but there are surely much better places to stay in the area. They are charging too much for the stay considering quality of rooms and minimal customer service.

2/10 Poor

Exceptionally bad!

For the sake of your own sanity please ignore the 10/10 exceptional reviews. In fact ignore anything above a 2, and I’m being generous there. I stay (pre Covid) in about 150 nights a year in a hotel/ guest house, this is without doubt in the bottom three worst places I’ve been in the last 5 years, maybe 10. The host who met us was pleasant enough but that’s where any sense of anything good evaporated. The place was dirty, damp, at best in desperate need of paint, new carpet and mattress. You’d think that given the lack of trade recently any self respecting owner would spend the time to do something to improve the woeful state of the place. It was so bad that despite the late arrival in the cold and dark, for only the second time in 20 years of working away, I left the place that night, found somewhere else. In fact we had three rooms, I called my colleagues to say we’re off and the look of relief on their faces said it all. We high talked it within minutes to somewhere... anywhere.. else. My car would have been a huge improvement but fortunately, with smart tech so handy, we booked and paid for a Premier Inn, not too far away and at almost 1/3 the price this place charged. Keep the money, you need it more than me. But fellow travellers, do yourself a favour and ignore the fake reviews at your peril!
