Really good location as it’s a 5 min walk from the train station also very close to the ferry. The room is on the smaller side but that’s expected in Varenna. The gentlemen at the reception was very helpful and they were able to accommodate for late check-in. I would recommend this spot and for the location and the value.

Very pleasant, convenient Varenna hotel just a few steps from the ferry docks and a short walk from the train station. Staff was excellent and breakfast was very good. Lots of choices. No lakeside view from rooms but so close it didn't matter.

We arrived after 8pm (train wasn’t running, so we had to take multiple buses) & front desk was closed. We called & they had upgraded us to a sister location as our room’s lock had broken; it was ~1 block away. We had a difficult time finding the entrance, but once we did, it was easy. Nice & spacious, great AC, our daughter’s bed ready to go! We were able to do the check in via what’s ap & left the city tax in the room so we didn’t even need to go back to the main hotel. Easy walk to restaurants (one even below our room) & lakeside! Would recommend!

Wonderful Stay at a Clean and Convenient Hotel! We had a great experience at Hotel Montecodeno. The property was exceptionally clean and well-maintained, which made our stay very comfortable. The location couldn’t be more convenient — it’s just a short walk to both the ferry terminal and the train station, making it easy to explore the surrounding area. A special mention to Matteo, at the front desk, who was incredibly helpful and kind. We had to leave unexpectedly a day early, and he went out of his way to assist us and make the process smooth and stress-free. His professionalism and helpfulness really stood out. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the area — clean, convenient, and outstanding service!

Hotel gave clear instructions to get there from the train station. The walk from station is scenic . Just be prepared to walk in an incline and walk up stairs to get to the accomodation. Pack lightly if possible. Hotel is walking distance to the ferry and to the main area where the food is.

The property needs updating and the room wasn’t that functional-safe was locked and I useable, bathroom was big but with virtually no storage area for toiletries and with a yrinal and toilet?, only an armoire to hang clothes and room was noisy with main road foot and street traffic. Staff is lovely, it’s well located, and very walkable from the ferries. Breakfast had real eggs , limited fruit and no decafe coffee All in all-a basic hotel that’s located just off lake “love” trail and within easy walking of main Varenna and ferries

Very convenient location for swimming and ferries. Public town parking (though super expensive at some 36 Eu per day) is down the street. Good breakfast. The AC had an issue the day we were there, but that was not a concern even though it was a very hot day as the temperature indoor was still around 22C. We enjoyed our stay.

The hotel is very convenient from the train station and to the ferry dock. The young woman who greeted me was most friendly. The breakfast was quite disappointing in quality and portions. The only hot breakfast item, eggs and bacon, ran out quickly and was not refilled. The hotel had an unpleasant cleansing agent smell.

Staff is superb, the location is perfect but this property needs a LOT of work. Not sure why it’s listed as a 3 star, this a 2 star property at the most. Ants everywhere, AC that only works when temp is over 100°C making it unbearable to sleep, windows that don’t work properly, doors don’t have regular locks (you need the key to open the main door) making it a safety issue, clogged drains, flickering lights in the bathroom, etc…

Check-in was very confusing. We booked a stay at Hotel Montecodeno but the hotel was closed and the sign on the door said to go to Hotel Barretta to check in. So we stayed at another hotel. Because this is not peak tourist season there is no hotel staff at night and only intermittent staff available during the day.
