Loved Figueira da Foz! And this hotel, the walkable location, the view from a big balcony, the top floor pool and steam room -- an unbeatable deal. I did grab a taxi from the bus/train station, as it's probably a 20 minute walk which with luggage I didn't want to do, taxi was under 6 Euros.

Needs a renovation

Location and breakfast were great. The hotel itself needs some renovations. Some of the rooms have some obvious water damage and we had to change away from the first one. The second room was in better condition, but worn. The pool area had quite a bit of tiles missing from the floor and also could have used some renovations. Not worth the 4 star or the price.

Excellent with only one issue

The suite facing the ocean was lovely. The king size bed was very comfortable. The service was excellent. The breakfast was one of the best in Portugal (at last I found vegetarian options!) and I loved the water (and cakes) they make available to guests for free. The only negative point was that the pillows (suite 610) were not fresh. The pillow cases were clean of course, but the actual pillows smelt a bit, I could smell the body odor of guests who stayed there before. My suggestion is that they pillows are washed too and not only the pillow cases. There is a bit of wear and tear (but very little) and that's typical of all Portuguese hotels, even the high quality ones. Maybe they suffered a hit during Covid, but all luxury hotels I have stayed in Portugal, all of them had wear and tear.

This hotel is drab, with the feeling similar to that of a hospital converted to a lodging facility. It is severely out dated and lacking maintenance, as internal doors are falling off their hinges and light bulbs are burnt or fixtures out of working order both in and out of the rooms. They are currently “between seasons” and the absence of a functioning air conditioning unit has my room at 24.5°C (76.1°F). We attempted to sit in their restaurant, initially only for tea, but were told that given the nature of what we intended on consuming, we would be “better served” in the outside bar area, which was considerably louder. The staff, outside of the gentlemen who checked us in, are lacking in the space of service, and the expectation we uproot our room at midnight to swap us to another wing of the hotel is not reasonable or hospitable. The room was only stocked with bath towels in one of the two bathrooms (which oddly enough was not the one inside of the main room) and outside of a safe and a bottle of water, had nothing else. Lastly, the pillows are thin, tough, and of inferior quality, very much in line with the rest of this establishment.
