8/10 Good

The room was spacious and the jacuzzi-style bath was very good. Staff were friendly and efficient. A bit disappointed there was no restaurant open in evening, although we did find a very nice restaurant nearby in Kingsland.

Good room and very quiet

I had not read the booking properly and had not noticed that the last time to book in was 6 pm. Luckily i arrived just before. The room was excellent and very quiet. A cooked breakfast was only available when the restaurant opened at 9.45 but that suited me fine. On checking in i was recommended the Angel pub in the next village for an evening meal which was very good.

Weekend away for a friend’s wedding

I arrived later than should for check in due to delays but was still able to book in. The room was very clean with a lovely big comfortable double bed. There was tea and coffee in the rooms plus a television which was an added bonus. The shower room was extremely clean and the shower was lovely and hot. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone.

Overpriced for what it was. Breakfast too expensive at £25 for two. We declined and opted for weatherspoons in Shrewsbury on the way home. Half the price.

Fantastic place... will definitely stay here again. Converted old pub, the room was massive.. jacuzzi bath... this place has its own shop which sells fresh produce and locally sourced items... staff were very welcoming and helpful.

Property served its purpose but was rather “tired” Disappointing that restaurant wasn’t open after 6pm and breakfast was at 8am-8.40am. Lack of staff around to speak to. We bought cake from there which was delicious

In need of refurbishment and better cleaning.

When we booked the stay, it was a pub with accommodation. In June, we received an e-mail telling us that they had shut the pub and opened a delicatessen in place of the pub. We arrived, having been told that we should knock at the side door by the black or red vehicle, and tried for over 10 minutes to attract anyone's attention. The stairs from the ground floor to 1st floor where our bedroom was creaked very loudly. But that was nothing compared to the staircase from the 2nd floor to the 1st floor - This came down directly above our room and we were woken at 5.30 am each morning by guests wearing what seemed like safety footwear as they went out to work. Our room was large with a large bathroom. Unfortunately, the bathroom windowsill was covered in flies each day and we had to remove them ourselves. The bathroom mirror was dirty and looked like it was some time since it had been cleaned. We had booked a room with a spa bath, unfortunately we were unable to use it until the last night of our stay as the seal on the plug was cut so water just drained away. We were told that we had to have breakfast between 8 am and 8.30 am - This is something we have never encountered in over 40 years of staying in UK accommodation. The breakfast was good and wholesome, but to only offer guests 1 piece of toast with their breakfast seemed a little mean. We have stayed at far superior accommodation at other establishments for similar or less than we were charged for our stay.

A bit disappointing

Unhappy when I phone to sort out check in to be told there was £10 an hour late book in fee for after 7pm. I think that is totally unreasonable and I was not aware of it when I booked as it wasn't highlighted on the website - it needs to be stated when the booking is made. The place was a little shabby but the room seemed clean enough. However there was mold in the bathroom around the tiles and some of the grout needed replacing. As it was just a one night stay it was ok although it really was in the back and beyond with no where close by to get food. The gardens looked lovely but I didn't have time to enjoy them.

Needs a bit of a spruce

The place is an older style building. I believe it was once a very busy pub as well as a diner. We just wanted somewhere to stay to attend a birthday in the family. Being totally realistic, the hotel could use some renovation, although I understand this is expensive. However, the hotel has no real excuse for its general lack of cleanliness. Stair carpets to the rooms is very poor condition, and the whole walk up to the landing and the rooms are a little bit grubby. Our room itself was OK, but the bathroom and shower did leave a little bit to be desired. The shower particularly had black mildew in all four corners of the tray, and the drain was partially blocked, which meant that the tray filled up quicker than it drained. Towels and sheets were clean. Breakfast was an option we took at our arrival. The breakfast itself, along with the service in the dining room was good. We only saw receptionist on our arrival, but we felt that the waitress in the mornings would answer any issues. It has the potential to be a fantastic hotel, but just falls short in the basics. If I had to score it out of 10, it would sadly just about score a 6.

Very comfortable room

The room itself was clean and comfortable but was sorely let down by the state of the shower which had very black sealant. I was pleased to see and use a hairdryer.

Very friendly welcome lovely breakfast with local produce available as an exra although a little bit pricey at £12 but excellent reception. Lovely stay thanks.

This is not a pub with rooms. No food an bar shut at 6pm. The published picture gave the impression of a pub. We had to get back in the car and take a 15 min drive to get food for a picnic in our room. The room itself was excellent, very old beams and plenty or hot water for the big corner bath with jets. Decor was fancy with lots of colorful satin pillows and bed spreads. It's shame it's not still the busy public house it seems it once was.
