I had high expectations for AthensWas Hotel given its 5-star rating and premium price (over $500 per night), but my experience was underwhelming at best and frustrating at worst.
First, the room I was given faced a McDonald’s and was extremely noisy until midnight each night. Despite multiple complaints, including speaking with the manager, I was refused a quieter room. The room was advertised as a suite, but it was nothing more than a small, standard room with a couple of chairs — certainly not deserving of the "suite" label or the price tag.
The hotel's marketing emphasizes views of the Acropolis, yet during my entire stay, I did not have access to any area with a view. The only location with a partial Acropolis view is the rooftop restaurant, which is only open during specific hours — there is no lounge or public space with a view available at any other time.
As for amenities, they are practically nonexistent. The gym is laughably small — closer in size to a storage closet, with no windows or ventilation. Overall, the hotel lacks the features, service, and quality expected of a 5-star property. In fact, it barely lives up to 3 stars.
If you’re expecting luxury, space, or views, this is not the place. You’d get better value, consistency, and comfort at a standard Holiday Inn for half the price.
On top of everything the manager, Dimitris is extremely unprofessional, dismissive and condescending when addressing the "mcdonald's" complaint.
