Gorgeous, extremely unique, and chic boutique hotel perched on the top of a hill in the heart of the surrounding village. We had the most wonderful stay at La Vieux Castillon! The hotel and views were idyllic, the staff kind and attentive, and the food absolutely delicious. Beautiful spa hotel. The pool area is stunning. Small and friendly. Lovely breakfast area. Rooms are cozy but lovely. Only issue was that our suitcase was damaged by whoever took it to the room. It wasn’t new so we didn’t mention it but it would have been nice for someone to tell us given it was pretty obvious it had fallen down stairs or something similar given it’s state by the time it arrived in our room.

This is a high-end destination place with a wonderful pool. However, if you have a pool, people will use it; if they use it, you need to have staff who can make sure it's clean and that there are enough towels. If you offer water, make sure the jug is full. As for the room, look at the photo in the website: even a standard room has a curtain over the bed to soften the harshness of the whiteness of the room... it's not too much to ask to have the actual room match the one in the photo... Finally, when you have a parking issue--the lot is five minute walk from the hotel--make sure your staff is trained to deal with people coming back from dinner after 10pm. We had a problem they apologized for, so no need to repeat the experience. In general, great potential with properly staffed facility (just because you are full doesn't mean you cannot serve your guests). For the kind of money this place commands, please make the effort upfront and not apologize afterwards.

My partner and I travel extensively and use the Michelin Key selection as a quality guide. Le Vieux Castillon was a serious disappointment. Shortly after check-in, a staff member damaged our large Rimowa suitcase while delivering it to our room — the handle was bent and the case could no longer close. The receptionist acknowledged it and took photos. Reasonable so far. That changed the moment she consulted the manager by phone. She returned with a completely different attitude: no written acknowledgement, no liability, no compensation — only an offer to have the same employee attempt a DIY repair. We had no real choice but to accept, as the broken handle meant the suitcase wouldn't fit in our car. It came down, but the case is now bent and will need professional repair. Accidents happen. What stays with us is the dismissiveness that followed — the entire staff treated us as if we were the problem for the rest of our stay. For a Michelin Key property, the gap between the physical product and the standard of guest care was striking.

Great but a closed bar and restaurant in peak?

This is a beautiful hotel and was great EXCEPT we stayed Sunday, Monday, Tuesday nights and no one told us the restaurant would be closed on Monday and Tuesday and that the bar would be closed on Tuesday as well!! The town is tiny all but one restaurant was closed on these days and it was full! When I asked where we could eat , I was told you get in your car and find somewhere which given we had been out all day we did not want to do . I have never stayed in a hotel where the bar was shut! The hotel seemed very busy so this made no sense. Why did no one tell me at booking or at check in that the restaurant and bar would be closed?

The old stone buildings were beautiful but the hotel was more like a 3 star Hilton than a 5 star hotel. Quite a shame as the property could truly be a magical experience - but it's truthfully not. Food and service by the pool was abysmal. The furniture and overall decor of the hotel was not very nice. I rarely do this, but I truly would not recommend this hotel to anyone. There are so many much nicer old hotels in Provence.

Petit hôtel de charme dans un village typique du Gard ! Nous n'avons passé qu'une seule nuit dans cet hôtel mais tout était parfait : l'accueil chaleureux à notre arrivée avec un voiturier très efficace, le restaurant AZUR en bord de piscine et la piscine avec une vue incroyable ! Le repas du soir au restaurant le JOIO et le petit déjeuner du matin : top ! La chambre était spacieuse et décorée avec goût ! Encore merci à l'équipe du Vieux Castillon pour sa bienveillance et son professionnalisme ! Nous recommandons vivement !
