This is an historic hotel that hasn’t been updated throughout any point in history. This makes it quaint and cute. It does mean, however, that the rooms are old and historic too. Tile in the bathroom was falling apart, carpet was rough, we had to wipe lots of dirt off of the bed comforter. Just know going in, it’s old and needs lots of attention.
Staff is super friendly, great proximity to Death Valley National Park.

The Opera House is not where you go if youre looking for in room massages. Its a historical building made of adobe with a unique back story that excuses its sometimes flaky exterior. You stay here for history. You stay here for the unique experience. The entrance to Death Valley is literally a block away, making this a hikers dream. The wild donkeys come to drink next to the back of the property in the morning. The staff are some of the friendliest around. The rooms have a bed and a hot shower, theres a microwave and a plethera of games, as well as a book nook. And an experience you cannot get at the soulless modern hotel. Make sure you take the tour if youve never heard of Miss Marta.

It’s historic, which means it’s old. Staff was nice, beds were clean, interesting history. Needs some serious updates and maintenance. Nothing much around it for food.

With the building being around a hundred years old, you should set your expectations accordingly. We would call it rustic. Biggest down-side is the plumbing. We had to run the hot water between 30 minutes to get the water hot enough for a shower. The front desk person was very friendly though and seems quite passionate about the history of the place.

This was a convenient pick for us because other lodgings in Death Valley were busy during the holidays. We were nervous about other reviews that said the walls were thin, but we took a risk for two nights, especially because they are dog-friendly!
Pros: good location, super friendly staff, cozy vibes, our heat worked, our hot water was great even with a wait.
Cons: old towels that had thread falling apart, bed was a bit stiff, cold air came in through the space on the door
Neutral: communal space

This may not be the place for the snobby, but if you have an open mind and love quirky this is a cool place. It's an old building and has had some trouble from Mother nature lately but it has a charm to it. It has some quirky plumbing tricks but once you have the hot water dialed in the shower feels great after several days of desert camping. It's quiet at night and the bed was comfortable. Next time I will make time for the tour which I hear is real interesting.

Good location. Very friendly and helpful staff.
The topography poses a problem as the ground water in the winter rises because the valley is far below, sea level. This creates a very muddy encounter in the middle of death Valley.
Glad the hotel was there, history very interesting. Beautiful setting.

The place is exceptional, with an interesting history. Unfortunately the building is in very bad conditions, it gets flooded during heavy rains and it badly needs some basic maintenance works. We still liked our stay because of a kind welcome, very nice people at the reception and the unique history of the place (we took a guided tour to visit the theater). The twe queen room was spacious enough for a couple with two kids.
Besides, the position is very close to the Death Valley park. So we recommend it to those tourists who are not afraid of its run-down appereance.

It’s a historic building on the National registry. When planning your visit you need to be aware of this. The building is over 100 years old, and subject to the extreme desert conditions. We found it charming. The room and bathroom was very clean, the bed was comfortable and the sheets were great. The only downside was that we arrived after a flooding and in the common area was a musty smell, but not in the room. The employees were very friendly and very informative! We were unable to take a tour of the opera house; however, my relatives had and recommended it, which we plan to do on our next trip there.
