Hotel a bit 'tired', but good news is that it closed today for complete refurbishment.
The view from the window.

We were made to feel welcome by the receptionist, barman and dinning staff. Their friendly and helpful manner added to the enjoyment of our stay. We would highly recommend people to stay at the Ship and Castle.

8/10 Very good

Amazing room overlooking the sea..
Helen, 4-night trip

10/10 Exceptional

Good location on seafront updated clean room. The only downside was no parking within the hotel but a carpark just up the road .
Alison, 1-night trip

10/10 Exceptional

The staff were warm and welcoming, especially Diane. It was like greeting an old friend when ever we entered the dining room. The food was exquisite. I plan to return with my family.
Miranda, 2-night trip

10/10 Exceptional

We booked a 2 night stay, with our daughter in order to be at a close friend's funeral service and wake. The hotel is ideally located to appreciate the view across the water, and to watch the comings and goings in the bay. The staff were really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The public areas and therooms are lovely and clean. Parts of the hotel are ready for being refurbishment (which is about to take place) but it would be a shame if the whole project loses all of the period atmosphere of the present building. The bar was comfortable and the barman (owner/manager??) was very personable and amusing. In fact, all of the staff made us feel really welcome and were encouraging us to return after the refurbishment has been completed.

Perfect location view from our room

Perfect location. Good customer service, but needs improvement on the AC or having a fan in the room as it was really hot. Overall decent hotel and would give it a 4 star. There were room with a perfect many stairs to find our room bit of a maze but good fun getting lost lol.
Hamilton, 2-night trip

2/10 Poor

Not what we booked

I booked this place with balcony and when we arrived was told first in best dressed! appaling really considering this was what the booking stated , women at desk was not helpfull when I questioned this we forfeited the room and was not even offered a refund for the false advertising and booking discription
debra, 1-night trip

4/10 Fair

Tragic

We ordered a superior sea facing room. It was definitely sea facing, but no way was it superior. Small bed, filthy window sills and someone's dirty pants on the floor. Breakfast was plentiful but like school dinners. I suppose if you get a cheal hotel in St Mawes you get what you pay for!
Teresa, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

Great location, nice staff
Kelly, 1-night trip

4/10 Fair

To be avoided!

80£ for a night; terribly dirty carpet, room felt like a storage room, almost no shower running water, spider net hanging down the roof, dirty kettle. Paid 26£ extra for breakfast for two - medium variety with no cheese and ham. Staff distant and moody. Worst stay ever!

2/10 Poor

Very poorly furnished room. Not for me again
Simon, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

Great location & good value for the money.

Location is perfect and breakfast was served in the restaurant over looking the sea and harbour. The hotel is an older building but when price is taken into account it's good value for the location.
Brian Lionel, 2-night trip

10/10 Exceptional

Lovely location. Beautiful sea view from the balcony. Excellent breakfast. Shame about no parking at hotel
Brian, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

Unique views from the bar and dining room Lovely location, clean and great staff, good breakfast. Room and corridors tired, someone had put a fist through bathroom door with a poor repare. We also looked out onto a window in an adjacent building. Room nothing like the standard double picture advertised. Also did not appreciate housekeeping shouting down the corridor at 7.30am.
Susan, 2-night trip

6/10 Good

Staff were lovely hotel over all was pleasant enough but could do with a lick of paint and a refresher in some areas
Tara, 2-night trip

4/10 Fair

Where to start, Given room 203, there were 4 rooms in this area/corridor which smelt thought we were in a care home. Room was bland though it did look as if it was trying to be upgraded, very small window which we had to leave open as it was so hot. In the bathroom a new heated towel rail had been installed, I would have recalled who ever installed it and told them what bad workmanship had been performed
Geraldine, 2-night trip

8/10 Very good

Good value and friendly service

Lovely hotel in a great location. Lovely welcome and the staff were very helpful with any questions we had. Very good value for money. Loved the coffee shop underneath the hotel for a morning coffee and pastry! Would definitely come and stay again - St Mawes is a lovely location.
Aimee, 2-night trip
