Check in was easy, room was clean and comfortable, and the balcony was delightful. We were there right before peak season so nothing was open (restaurants, pool, etc) but the facility itself was nice.

Great overnight stay

Spent one night while traveling from North Carolina to Missouri. Room was very clean and comfortable. Decor was a little dated. Had breakfast in the restaurant. Food was very good and some of the best prices we have seen recently. Service was over the top.

Lodge Rooms are outdated! Needs new furniture, paint, doors, curtains, and mini blinds! Refrigerators, Microwaves, and Big Screen Tv's on a wall mount need to be included in each lodge room because there are days the lodge restaurant is not open to serve food! The outside patio of my lodge room was dirty and entire place needs to be pressure washed! The outdoor pool is very nice, and the grounds was clean and mowed!! Customer Service is excellent and very accomodating at the front desk!

It is due for update. Pool was great. Karen in the Lodge dining was EXCELLENT!!! Food was very good. All the folks we encountered who worked at Barren were delightful. The bar was not open- due to lack of help. Our room was clean, a bit musty & needs an update. But, we understand it on the calendar.

Enjoyed the quiet, beautiful property during the 1st week of October. Lakeside sunsets were amazing! The villa was clean and comfortable. Loved convenient restaurant and pub on property with reasonable prices and friendly staff. Went to Crystal Onyx cave and rented a pontoon from the Narrows Marina. Our first trip to Kentucky from Indiana and we look forward to another visit.

Pleasant stay

We visited frim out of state for the first time. We stayed in the lodge. You can tell they are older buildings but kept very clean. Our room was very roomy and comfortable. It would be nice to have a little mini fridge to keep cold drinks or left overs from the restaurant but otherwise it was a good stay.

Spectacular location!

Needed a place to stay when buying a new truck from a local place. Being from CT and not knowing the area, we found this place was really close to the truck sales place, and very reasonably priced! We were very pleased to see how clean and well kept the rooms and property was. The breakfast was great too. We would have loved to explore the park more if we had more time. If we are ever back in the area, this is definitely the place we will stay at!! Thank you for a great stay making it an acceptional trip!

Clean and budget friendly

This place was fantastically clean. I’m usually very picky about cleanliness and I can’t think of a single thing I wasn’t impressed with. It’s not fancy (no big screen TVs, no mini fridge or microwaves in the lodge rooms, no dining options aside from the buffet), but with a little planning and willingness to pack some snacks this is a great budget friendly option for a weekend getaway. Our room had its own private balcony overlooking the sunset side of the lake and it was gorgeous every night!

Make no mistake, this isn't for everyone. It's old with lots of bugs but for some people, the amenities will make up for that. Beautiful area with a balcony looking out over a lake with a pool, golf course, trails and horses. Facility could stand to be updated and needs a refrigerator in the rooms but you can't beat all the extras if you enjoy the outdoors. Bring or buy a citronella candle and enjoy.

Plan on waking up early.

It was a nice park. Hotel wasn't anything special. Comfortable bed, dated rooms. You hear everything in the connecting rooms. No fridg or microwave even though the cabinets were made for them. Pool still under construction. The park staff was nice enough to mow the grass right outside everyones room at 7:55 In the morning. Brilliant. That should say somthing about the way the property is managed.

Restful weekend

I cannot say enough good things about the staff: friendly, welcoming, and incredibly overworked. They did everything possible to make our stay comfortable. We spent some time at the bar and discovered some serious stock shortages. They were out of several popular beers, and no ginger ale. But the live music was enjoyable and again, the staff hustled nonstop. The lodge is showing its age. Water pressure in the bathroom was a trickle, forcing us to brush our teeth in the tub. The bathroom and balcony doors were out of square and wouldn’t close. Despite some quirks, we truly enjoyed our visit. It’s beautiful, quiet, peaceful and staffed by great folks.

It's a beautiful resort. It's a shame that more care and attention to the fantastic facility is not taken. Old accumulated Leaves in the breezeways, broken parking lot lights, the pool was down (and this was June!) for remodeling. . . So much more could be done with this place. The staff was very kind upon arrival and throughout - but when we couldn't get in our room because the key wouldn't work (second time) the front desk had a sign which said "be right back" - We waited and waited and several staff passed us - finally we walked to the dining entrance (where they could see us) and the young lady was talking with the hostess, apparently getting dinner. That's fine! Everyone needs to eat! But it was late and we had already walked up to our room, then waited for another ten minutes - no apology - very unprofessional.

Stayed 1 night. Staff at check in was super friendly and even let us switch our room when we discovered ours involved stairs. Staff at check out was equally nice, although we did have to wait a bit as they were very busy. We ate dinner at the restaurant and although the menu was small the food was great. Service was good there as well, they let us move to a table by the window. Free breakfast had plenty to choose from, and once again customer service went above and beyond because they made plain oatmeal and decaf coffee special for me due to my dietary restrictions. State Park had very nice beach and marina, would love to visit during the summer. Views from the restaurant and our hotel room were beautiful, loved the balcony. On the down side we were afraid to sit on the chairs because they were old, kind of rusty metal and we thought they may break with our weight. Bathroom ceiling was cracked/peeling. Lamps and walls could have used a cleaning. Air/Heat unit was noisy at times. No fridge/microwave. But overall it was a very nice experience and great value for the price. Highly recommend.

Rough night

Well to start off our first room reeked of musty smell.. Went back to the service desk and explained the situation she gave us another room. It to had a slight musty smell, but not nearly as bad as first.. the door was sticking not sure I would’ve been able to get the door open by myself . But the room was clean it was dated, but it was clean, Bed and linens were sufficient, Was a little disappointed the pool was not open. Looks like it’s going to be a longtime, Before it will be done lol. And not of their-own fault the lake/beach was not available .. Which was one of the reasons I picked the place! Place can use some updating between musty smells and doors not opening properly, and blinds being in poor condition.. it gave it a look of unkept. The railings outside are in dire need of help. Just needs some updating… Heavy maintenance . Also, I’d like to mention there is no small refrigerator in there which would be nice for guest as they Are staying for a day or more! And let’s remember there’s no free breakfast like most hotels have in the morning although there is a restaurant it’s not free .. i’m trying to be positive, but the place missed the mark it lacked.. probably would not stay there again bottom line .. Maybe I would try a cottage maybe not!
