The Whales Bay hotel is highly recommended. The place was very nice and clean. We enjoyed swimming in the pool and even got into the jacuzzi for a few minutes. The location is nice also as it is out in a quieter area but still only about 25 minutes t Ponta Delgada. The only thing missing was a nice breakfast.

Our stay at Whales Bay Hotel was quite wonderful. We loved every aspect of it. The appartments and the common areas are all kept spotlessly clean. The reception staff were really heplful and knowledgeable about the islands. The hot tub and the steam/sauna was a highlight of our day. There is nothing about the accomodation we did not like. We will very probably book again next year.

We chose this hotel/apartment because it has a fully stocked kitchen, beautiful location near the ocean, free parking, pleasant, and courteous staff and away from the hustle and bustle of downtown and only 10–15 minutes car ride away. there is a supermarket about five minutes drive and a few bars and restaurants around. and on top of it, the daily price is reasonable.

We were thrilled with this property for a family of four. The views from the penthouse apartment were incredible. Lots of space, super clean and anything you could need was in the apartment. You need a rental car for this area but it was so peaceful and scenic. Incredible walking trails right outside the complex. We enjoyed the spa amenities and pool every night! I would highly recommend Whales Bay!

Lovely honeymoon stay

We spent part of our honeymoon trip at the Whales Bay apartment hotel and loved every moment! They even greeted us with special honeymoon decorations in our apartment. This is a lovely location to stay at if you’re looking for apartment style accommodations to be able to do your own cooking while enjoying hotel amenities. We will be back!

Great place to stay. Not crowded like Ponta Delgada. Is in a residential area, with a 2 minute walk to the shoreline. Nice area to walk along shore, a small ocean bay with a swimming within a 10 minute walk. Stayed on the second floor, they advertise you dont have a ocean view, but ocean was viewable as well a shore line to the west. Very clean, modern and quiet.

Probably a wonderful place for family with kids but not suited for friends or couple with no kids since walls are paper-thin and bedrooms are on the corridor, stairs and elevator side… 20 meters from the ocean but only a few appartments have an ocean view.

Spacious, clean, well appointed apartment with a huge balcony. Beds were comfortable and shower was hot with good pressure. Kitchen area was well equipped. Seats at island were too low to be useable. Area in track between 2 glass doors in shower exhibited some black mold. Other than that the apartment was perfect. Could have used some racks for the luggage, but we managed. The wet area of the hotel was very nice. The pool was a great temperature and very clean and refreshing. The sauna and steam worked flawlessly and were spotless. The jacuzzi was disappointing though. Not hot enough and the jets were lackluster with no air blended in. Seemed like it wasn’t functioning properly. Both the gentleman and the young lady manning the front desk were very friendly and helpful. They seemed genuinely glad to have us staying at their beautiful property. The grounds were well maintained and lush. A beautiful resort to spend some time.

Nice hotel with a beautiful backdrop in a quiet local neighborhood. The hotel is gated, so it feels safe, and there is plenty of parking. The staff was wonferful - always willing to help any way they could, however the desk is not staffed 24/7, so getting a hold of someone wasnt always possible. The room was spacious and well stocked, however not the most updated/new (coffee maker leaked water, microwave door stuck, ice cune tray was broken, sliding glass door to patio was very hard to open). The property had a lovely view and a nice infinity-style pool, however the other "amenities" were minimal. The gym was very small and some of the machines did not work, there was not an on-site spa as mentioned, and the hot tub and sauna were not working at the time. The only "extra" that was really available was the steam room type area. Overall, the location, view, and staff were lovely (very quiet area without much around - but there is a mercado, gas station, and a couple small local restaurants; not walkable. Ocean views walkable from hotel). The room was certainly sufficient but could use a few upgrades and the amenities were definately lacking compared to what was advertised. All that being said, our experience at Whale's Bay was good and we would stay there again - decent value for the money.
