Great hotel, disappointing service
I think the Tabard Inn was beautiful, unique and was in a great spot in DC. I loved the room, the restaurant and (specifically the restaurants service), the charming homey feel it gave. But I was disappointed with the service unfortunately.
I called earlier in the morning asking if it was possible to have an early check in, they responded with a vague we cannot guarantee you an early check in. I understood and left my number in case they could. We got there early and were able to drop off our bags and store them. The woman who was at the front desk initially came off a bit cold when getting help with our bags and parking. Like we were inconveniencing her. My girlfriend and I then went to a museum while we waited to check in, at 2:30 (check in was at 3) someone from the hotel called and said we could have early check in now if we wanted and it was a $25 charge if wanted it… when we called in the morning no one told us there would be a charge if we wanted early check in. We declined the “early” check in offer and got situated when we were done at the museum.
To improve, they should definitely be informing people of a potential additional fee from the get go, not when the early check in is available. It would save them a future call. Also being friendlier would be helpful.
If we’re in DC we’ll definitely be there again for the hotel itself, hopefully the service will be better but we’ll plan for not checking in early.
