A horrible place to stay

The place was poorly presented, the common area was locked up, it had no door between the bedrooms, no extractor fan in the internal bathroom, no safety devices such as smoke detector. I don't think it would pass an inspection. One sink served as hand washing from the toilet and washing dishes, and the water was lukewarm. There was nowhere to sit, the bedrooms were too small. Unable to close one of the blinds. In all, it was rubbish. We had booked two nights but found somewhere else to stay for the second night. The photos online were not deceptive of the actual accommodation. It is well known around Lightning Ridge for its poor presentation.

Comfortable, quiet location.

Good checkin communication prior to our arrival. Very comfortable 3 rooms included bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette/dining. Off road parking on the property was good although a little cramped for our large landcruiser. Would stay again.

We stayed for two days on our Lightning Ridge visit. We chose the b and b as we figured it would be a quieter option and it was. It’s not the most modern, but it’s comfortable, clean and has everything we needed. The bathroom is small but fine for a couple of nights. The kitchen had everything you could need, we didn’t cook but could have used the outdoor kitchen/bbq if we had wanted. Breakfast at the property was great. Recommend staying here if you want a small, quiet stay after days of exploring.

Quaint, quirky and quiet

The Sunset Suite in Sonja's B&B made a refreshing change from our usual motel stays. The unit was spotlessly clean and well equipped for our needs, even if the en suite was a little 'bijou'. We had booked 2 nights but only stayed 1 as no-one told us that most of Lightning Ridge's attractions, shops and restaurants close down 'for the season'. This is no reflection on Sonja's as we would have been very happy to stay there.

My first morning there property staff greeted me by asking where I was from and immediately attempting to engage me in a discussion about politics. I’m on holiday, not interested. My room was switched before I got there but that room was locked. The room available to me had all the windows opened with the AC running when I arrived so it was very hot. After closing the windows, the AC couldn’t keep the space cool. The shower is tiny. The amenities are all dated.

Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt. Für einen Aufenthalt in Lightning Ridge sehr zu empfehlen. In der Gästemappe gibt es viele Tipps für Aktivitäten im Ort. Unser Zimmer und Bad waren sehr groß und die Dachterrasse ist super, um in der Nacht die Sterne zu sehen.
