It's feeding time at the zoo! If you want to be reminded of some of the great animals our world is home to, you might want to pay a trip to Adventure World, located 0.9 mi (1.4 km) from central Shirahama. If you have fun at Adventure World, you'll love Shirahama Energy Land and Shirahama Undersea Observation Tower, both located nearby.
Whether you want to collect beach glass or watch the sunset, Shirahama Beach is a spot you might want to check out, located 1.3 mi (2.1 km) from central Shirahama. If you want to continue walking by the waves, head to Ezurahama Beach Resort located nearby.
You can find out about the history of Nachikatsuura with a stop at Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine. Wander the parks and riverfront while you're in the area.
"We stayed here 3 nights in April (visiting from NYC). My husband got food poisoning from the hotel the second night (we know this because we shared every meal on our trip except 1). Food in general was not very good… we didn’t realize the ryokan culture is to eat a huge breakfast and dinner at the hotel, so we saw the reviews saying the food isn’t great and didn’t think much of it. The reviews are right! Other thoughts: if you google kii-katsuura one of the main attractions is whale watching, the hotel staff knew nothing about it. We had to do our own research and find a tour (tour co was 20 min away and picked us up from our hotel but just odd hotel staff were unhelpful). Also private outdoor onsen rooms on the first floor do not have a view of the ocean, which was a disappointment, worth it to pay more for a higher floor. But mostly do not recommend this place at all."

"This is our second stay at Hotel Urashima. They've changed ownership so there is a difference in checking in There are stand alone
Kiosk to check in. Not so personal. We usually get 1/2 board which is buffet breakfast and buffet dinner. Both breakfast and dinner have several pre dinner cooking devices that you cook your fish or vegetables. Breakfast could be improved.
My favorite is the variety of onsens and the cave grottto is my favorite.
There is also a shiatsu massage service."
