Karpaha Sands
10/10 Excellent
"Karpaha Sands is easily one of the best resorts we’ve ever stayed at. The personalisation here is unlike anything we’ve experienced elsewhere — from our incredible butler Namal (attentive, intuitive, always there when needed) to the cell phones provided to reach him at any time, to an anniversary cake, to arranging dinner at our room the last night. Manager Omberto and the entire team were genuinely warm & friendly throughout our stay.
The food is phenomenal! Were talking 5* quality across every meal. Hoppers at breakfast, fresh jams, a dreamy tea selection, ceviches and calamari chapati tacos to die for, and a seafood feast that was beyond anything. The starlight cinema with sparkling wine, sweets and popcorn was pure magic.
Luxury glamping rooms are stunning — beautiful design, incredibly comfortable bed, indoor tub with salts, outdoor shower, gorgeous lighting and a speaker for music. Days were spent bouncing between pool daybeds, eating and beach loungers with lovely afternoon snack surprises. The massages were so good I had to have a second one. The masseurs were so sweet & gave lovely massages.
Beach walks were wonderful morning abs evening and the entire strip felt very private and quiet.
The number of stray dogs was quite heartbreaking competing for food, sadly a big problem in Sri Lanka. A mass neutering program would go a long way.
A hidden gem with world-class food, exceptional service, and touches we’ll never forget. We will 1000% be back."
"Heritance Kandalama is set in a beautiful location and amazing lake views. Great hotel
Interiors and views. Unfortunately besides the panoramic view from our room, the actual room itself was lacklustre to say the least. Bathroom is outdated with no amenities. Room furniture seems like a hodgepodge of items put together. Mattress and pillows had a smell, a few stains and felt old. Called the front desk/operator on a Wednesday night at 10:30pm and no one answered the phone for 25 mins. We had checked in at 930pm and promised they would deliver our extra rollaway bed and it took 1 hour to get it. Buffett dinner and breakfast spread has way too many options just to make it look full but the quality of the food was 3/10. Overall 2/5"
"We loved our stay at Cinnamon Lodge and will be back. The hotel setting is lovely - on huge grounds with plenty of wildlife. The pool is great and the breakfast / lunch / dinner is full of choice and good quality. The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful but a shoutout goes to Wasantha who made our stay extra special. Would definitely recommend this hotel."
"Very attentive staff, and a clean, serene hotel. Good food options on site, and easy to get to busier locations. Would highly recommend the elephant safari. Massage was great too! Nice, big gym which was always empty - has a bench and most machines you need for a good workout."
"Beautiful new hotel on the beach. Grounds are immaculately kept. Nice pool & bathing area under palm trees. Beach bar too. Food was nice and open all hours. Can walk via the beach to other restaurants easily. Would recommend the dolphin watching & snorkelling on pigeon island. You can go to Nilaveli for the day for a more quiet, cleaner beach."
"Incredible helpful and friendly staff and beautiful ground. My cottage with the outdoor shower was charming. Spa facilities were not available during hours that i wanted to use them, ieri early morning and evening before and after excursion, that was sad. No pool towels also a minus. Dinner menu was expensive but nothing was very good. Breakfast however was delicious! Sri lankan menù was bevande expectation. I enjoyed my stay very much."
