Kimberley Manor Guesthouse
6/10 Okay
"A 6 and a half out 10 experience. Very overpriced. When I checked in I was nearly allocated a standard room on the ground floor, but I paid for the luxury room with a balcony. I rather stay next time at the Protea Hotel at the Big Hole, which has a fabulous lounge area, restaurant and buffet breakfast included, for just R400 more per night. Also be careful when you book, even if you select to pay when checking in, you will be charged immediately via NightsBridge. Very confusing. Was a major hassle for me to get a refund and then did not even get all of it. I changed my check in date, which was withon the free canellation or change time period. At least there's a grocery store 5min walk away and also Chinese takeaways. The place is quiet and the room massive. I just used Uber. Was a business trip."
"The room was lovely, the hotel looked spacious and modern and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.
The complimentary water and coffee/tea was a nice touch, even though the coffee was not replenished the next day.
However, there were a number of small niggles:
No soap dish at the basin.
No hooks to hang up wet towels.
Only one dressing gown in the cupboard.
No reading lamps at the bed.
Breakfast was advertised as a buffet - the cereals were on a buffet, but the hot food had to be ordered from a waitress who spoke so softly one could barely hear what the offering was. The cheese grillers turned out to be be two cocktail sausages. In general the hot breakfast was small quantities, and even after requesting a bigger serving, the difference was barely notable. Then I was told that they do not have any more stock of simple things like butter for the toast.
Despite this we would not mind staying there again. Clean, well positioned and welcoming."
