"A warm welcome. Friendly staff. Great accommodation, clean and comfortable. The bar and dining area is spacious (not easy though finding a table during the big breakfast rush from 8.30-9.30am. But given it's a free breakfast and a great one at that it's no surprise everyone turns up!
The hotel is a 40 minute walk into the city centre. There aren't any other amenities close by. Because of this we dined in both nights. A good selection of drinks available at the bar with prices in keeping with many pub prices.
Food is also in line with many pub prices. The burgers on the first night were enjoyable and came with two dips and a generous portion of chips. Food is cooked to order.
The second night I ordered a steak pie and found the shortcrust pastry to be like concrete! It took a mighty effort to break into the pie and the filling whilst nice was a little dry. Perhaps the pie had been overcooked. The gravy that accompanied the dish was thin and watery and just ran off the outer pastry casing.
The member of staff serving immediately sought to resolve this to my complete satisfaction. I mention this as it was the only negative we encountered. A small negative became a big credit to the hotel staff in how he handled it.
The hotel is dog friendly which is a nice touch.
Overall an enjoyable break away and without a doubt we would definitely stay here again."
