The Townhouse Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"Spacious room, lots of drawers and a wardrobe for storage. It was very quiet during our stay although there were plenty of other guests. Very comfortable bed, and the fan was great in the hot weather.
Food was good (breakfast and dinner) and staff were helpful with gluten free options. Welcoming, comfortable hotel and we'll be back for another visit."
"Room was a little tired and maintenance is needed. Shower had a small amount of mould, one of floor boards in front of Shower was damaged, flushing of water was inconsistent, shaver light did not work. For the price I expected better.
There was no one on reception when we arrived and another guest let us in to the building as it was raining.
Bar closed before 9.30."
"To start with ... the positives .... the car park is large; the staff were smiling, helpful and courteous; the breakfast was very tasty and portions generous; the room was bright, large enough and clean. The location is very central and very convenient for the book festival, shops, the abbey etc.
As an old market-town hotel we guessed it was probably a little in need of upgrading/maintenance and it is ... with some scuff marks etc but staff keep it clean. We were at the very back of the hotel and it is a bit of a rabbit warren. Folk with mobility issues might struggle with cases (no lifts) but we were forewarned."
"Staff were lovely, cottage was lovely. Restaurants and bars all top notch.
What was not made clear when booking the rooms was 2 significant issues.
Firstly although says bed and breakfast, the breakfast was £25 voucher to cook your own. That was not made clear on hotels.com App.
Second issue that was not at all clear, is that despite strong advertising re spa, if you are in a cottage it's £65 per person per day to use the spa facilities. This is a lot. And the biggest gripe is that not even buying the v expensive spa treatments (£300) gave us any access to the spa facilities"
"A gem that brings back old school travel. Everything was perfect, unique and quite lovely. A quiet, beautifully landscaped, and a perfect place to relax and regroup."
"A simple, functional B&B. The staff were helpful in making sure we had oat milk for with the breakfast. Check in was easy and meant we could arrive anytime."
