Smack bang in Colchester town centre, which makes it ideal for shopping, eating out, and nightlife. That said, if you’re like me and need a window cracked open at night, be warned: the noise and music from the surrounding pubs is VERY loud. Bring noise-cancelling headphones if you value sleep.
The room was generally clean, although the photos speak for themselves. A quick go with some limescale remover would sort it recognising it’s not a big job. Possibly the bathroom door isn’t being shut during cleaning.
Lighting throughout is quite dim, so if you need to do your makeup, bring a magnifying mirror and a small LED light.
There’s an express self-checkout at the entrance, which is handy, and parking is available for £12 per 24 hours at the rear of The George Hotel opposite. Check-in and breakfast are also at The George, which is a lovely hotel with a much nicer atmosphere.
This hotel itself feels a bit soulless, but it is undeniably convenient. I’m giving it 4 stars as I booked early and it was reasonably priced. It’s fine for what it is.
