My husband and I stayed at New York-New York for two nights during our recent trip to Vegas. While there were a few things we liked, several frustrating experiences made it unlikely that we’d choose to stay here again.
The Cons:
The biggest issue was the lack of communication from the front desk at check-in. The staff member checking us in didn’t ask if we’d ever stayed there before (we hadn’t) and gave zero explanation about how things work. For example, he failed to mention that the room key is required to activate the elevator and that if you enter the wrong tower, your key won't work at all. We were left confused and wandering until we figured it out ourselves. We later learned our room was in the “New York Tower,” but this was never explained upfront.
There are also some odd inconveniences in the room:
No coffee maker, no complimentary coffee in the lobby.
When we ordered two cups of coffee to the room, they never mentioned a charge — then hit us with a $30 fee. They did remove it when we complained, but it felt sneaky.
No fridge or microwave in the room, which seems to be standard in Vegas now, but it’s still frustrating.
The Pros:
The room itself was clean, and the hotel is in a great location on the Strip.
You can access the MGM and Excalibur pools, and there’s a free tram to nearby properties, which is a great perk in the summer heat.
Vegas has too many other options that treat guests with a little more thought and care. Not sure we'd stay here again.
